In-n-out's fries are even on the list? And they actually beat out Chick-fil-a? What a joke

Anyone here every try Fatburger? Was always impressed by their burgers, made on the spot, could ask for it to be cooked to medium or medium rare rather than hockey puck and the meat is nicely spiced with pepper. Tons of fixings if you want them, and the burgers are actually quite large, unlike 5 guys where you end up paying 10 bucks for something a little larger than a slider.

Five Guys' walls are filled with raving reviews that don't make much sense. Their burgers and fries seem decent quality, but the taste doesn't stand out.

Similar with In-n-out except for smaller and lower budget.

The worst chain burger IMO is probably Sonic's.

Best might be Carl's Jr. Six Dollar burgers - Hawaiian or Chili Cheese.

Independent restaurants of course usually beat chains easily.

McDonalds' Angus burgers like above, decent quality but taste just ok.

Kind of funny no mention of Jack in the Box. Their 'deli sandwiches' are decent, burgers 'a bit below average fast food', but at least they have a sort of patty melt.

In n Out over five guys any day of the week. I'm one of the few that actually like their fries. Only problem with In n Out is that you have to eat it right when you get it. Reheating totally kills the taste and ruins the fries.

In-n-out definitely makes five guys seem like it tastes of poo.

I think it must vary a lot by region. Five guys here in Dallas is far superior to In-n-out (had it a few times in LA, now we have those here as well). We have a few Carl's Jrs as well, which range from awesome (frankford and josey location) to average (hebron and old denton location) to godawfulwtfisthisshit (lewisville location). I didn't try 5 guys on my recent trip to the pacific nw, but heard from people there that it was expensive and mediocre.

In-n-out is always the same though in my experience, about a half-step up from McD's.

I think it must vary a lot by region.

i think its more the people in the region. I saw a thing on TV where 13 firefighter HQ's in both Chicago and NYC tried each others pizza styles. NYC with their thincrusts and they rave its the best and CHicago with thier thick, heavy pizza's.

Turned out NYC didnt like Chicago's pizza's and vise versa overall. So prolly depends on the people in the region itself so much as the particular chain in an area...i'm sure most chains are all made the same at every store, less you got lazy employees or what not.

That's a fair point, but over the years I've realized just how critical it can be for a location to have good management. And when you get into non-frozen beef vendors like In-n-out and Five Guys, the whole local supply chain infrastructure and resultant quality can vary massively by region and even by time of year.

Monolithic centrally managed robotic chains like McD's largely succeed with every location being nearly identical in quality, and on the flip side I've seen Taco Bells, Carl's Jrs, and Burger Kings vary wildly from one suburb to the next. Chik-Fil-A always seems consistently above average though.

Hmm last time I ate there that was definitely not the case... though it has been a long time.
It also wasn't anywhere near that expensive...

Ken's ratings - only of places I've eaten:

Fast Food - Large Chains
1. Noodles - is this a Large chain? Anyone outside of Colorado ever heard of it?
2. Panera Bread - If this is the place I got free wifi once. Or was it Einstein Bros - I'm not sure.
3. Qdoba Mexican Grill - Very good black bean burrito. Is this a Large chain? Anyone outside of Colorado ever heard of it?
4. Chick-fil-A - chicken is pretty good, waffle fries are waffle awful
5. Sonic, I guess - Just get the strawberry cream pie shake.
Fast Food - Mega Chains
1. Burger King - If you can find one that still grills their burger. You know, on an open flame. I think air pollution rules make these hard to find. Fries and pies are also good. Haven't tried soft serve yet.
2. Arbys - It's good moo food, that's not burgers. Curly fries also FTW. Would be #1 if the Arby-q was still on the regular menu.
3. Subway - good sandwiches, good cookies, but it's funny - I can make a good tuna sandwich at home almost as fast.
4. Wendy's - Generally good, but I hate spicy food.
5. Taco Bell - Cheap, good.
(Notice the lack of McDonalds?)

Best Burger
1. Burger King
2. Wendy's
3. Sonic - no, really, their burgers ain't bad these days.
4. McDonald's
5. Carl's Jr. - Burgers look good, except that they're full of gristle D:

Best French Fries
1. Arbys curly fries FTW
2. Burger King - just don't let them cool!
3. Wendy's - if you have to let them cool.
4. Sonic - tot's a pretty good fry.
5. Chick-fil-A - Anything but McDonald's.

Missing from list, because I've never eaten there:
Five Guys
In-N-Out Burger
Culver's

I think I ate from a Chipotle Mexican Grill once - can't recall if it was any better than Qdoba but it probably wasn't.

LOL this. People putting Burger King as their top chain...ROFL.

well if they really like it, theres nothing wrong with them. I really like MCD's, but of course its too "mainstream" for many people...yet they eat their regularly anyway:\ go figure

Five Guys over In-N-Out? Seriously?

Five Guys = untoasted grocery store bun + unmelted slice of Kraft American cheese burger

All you guys wondering why there's no Jack in the Box: Large portions of the country have never even heard of it. No locations or TV ads.
