Currently listening to Dokken's greatest hits. The guitar from George lynch is amazing. I forgot how good he is.

And so, the metal glam bands I remember: Dokken, Ratt, Bon Jovi, Cinderella, Motley Crue, Twisted Sister, Poison, Quiet Riot, Def Leppard, Winger, Warrant, White Lion, and so on.

Just too many to list. I'm going to say probably Poison, or Def Leppard.

Not sure I'd classify Def Leppard in particular as ANY kind of "metal" band....

Out of OP's choices that ARE sorta "metal" (IMO) I'd have to go with Motley Crue or Poison although the more widely accepted "moniker" for these bands would be "Big-Hair" ROTFL. (they're not quite "hardcore" enough to be considered "heavy metal")

Motorhead, Danzig or Mega-Death (for example) more "fit" the definition of "metal" !!!

Gotta love Rick Allen though.

Maybe I haven't heard them in a while, but I thought Poison was kind of similar in genre/style to Def Leppard. I know I was listening to both around the same period. The "big-hair" was also called "cock-rock" in some circles, lol.

The three you listed at the bottom were indeed metal, just not really 'glam'.

Scorpions might be a strong contender for me, heh.

I'd be hard pressed to pick a "best" one of them personally, it's all okay enough, but I'd rather listen to thrash/speed metal, or newer more extreme metal. A bunch of pretty boys singing about girls and partying just isn't that relatable or interesting to me.

Def Leppard is widely included in the NWOBHM (new wave of British heavy metal)
Hair metal and glam metal are very nearly interchangeable terms though.

I've been to dozens of actual heavy-metal concerts (including Iron Maiden, Danzig twice and the aforementioned Motorhead) plus I've seen Def Leppard 4-5 times too, a couple times in small clubs.

IMO I would have to say Def Leppard is far too "mellow" and "mainstream" to be mentioned in the same breath as real metal bands like the above.

They do give a terrific show though!

Of that list, Poison or Def Leppard.

Of those two, I have a few Def Leppard songs on some playlists. Classic choons.

Scorpions were a great German-origin rock band.

Many were critical of their lyrics/vocals which was totally not fair as english was Klaus Meine's "second" language and he was not considered to be fluent in it at the time.

Never heard the term Big Hair. Glam or Hair metal was the term I heard/would use for this genre.

In the US "glam" was the less used term but both 100% WERE used interchangeably and frequently. (I know because I was around and going to concerts back then when the earth was still cooling!)

177 hair metal bands from the 1980s and early, early 1990s
(hairandflannel.com)

"Glam metal (also known as hair metal or pop metal) is a subgenre of heavy metal that features pop-influenced hooks and guitar riffs, upbeat rock anthems, and slow power-ballads. It borrows heavily from the fashion and image of 1970s glam-rock."

I think it's kinda funny you were giving me shit about Satanic metal bands a while back when you've seen fucking Danzig twice
I would like to have seen him in the early-mid 90s.

Back when I saw Danzig I was a lot more "angry/crazy" (and dumb!) then I am now what can I tell you .... however you'll NEVER hear me defend or try to justify my bad choices! (supporting those dick-bags was a clear mistake)

Eventually as you age, you start to understand that people usually are exactly who they say that they are!

Awesome. So who was using the term Big Hair to describe this genre of music? I still haven't found any references.

I count myself lucky that, while I've heard of several of those bands...I don't think I've ever listened to a single song from any of them start to finish.

Just not my genre. To me, most music from the 80's sucked.

Aside from a couple bands I really liked, you could probably make a 5, or possibly a 10 disc box set of popular 80s music I'd enjoy listening to. That really isn't much from an entire decade.

Try using Google? (I'm unsure why you believe I would care enough to make this up lol)

*(also I redacted the word "ignorance" as being insulting wasn't my intent... my apologies for the tone!)

Had a lot of great sports sex with girls that were heavy into Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, and Motley Crue. Good times, good memories. Leather mini skirts, spiked bracelets, big hair, cat eye makeup...Sherman, set the wayback machine to the 80's!!!

Guns n Roses and Aerosmith did some rocking shit in the '80s, though not glam rock.

The '90s had the last great sick run of new bands though.

Still have a few Motley Crue and Ratt cassette tapes hanging out in my closet and on the way in to work tonight Nobody's Fool by Cinderella popped up on my Pandora mix, still rocks.
