reads like Real Life to me.

You realize a lot of people turn to games and other forms of entertainment to escape from exactly this?

Edit: Reminds me of this...

Wait, no monthly fee? I've been getting ripped off!

My idea for The *Best* (hypothetical) Computer Game Ever:

You plug yourself into your virtual reality machine. The launch screen boots up, and the AI asks you what you want to play. You describe what you want to play (such as what the OP described) and the AI spends a few moments creating it for you from scratch.

Of course, multiple people can link and play in the same universe.

The AI learns more about you as you play from reading the signals from your brain. How you act. What you like or dislike. As time goes on, it keeps creating better and better games for you.

Boom. Totally feasible by 2023, I'm sure.

I f'in hate sandbox games.

Of course you have the liberty to like any type of game you like. Obviously, you already have a zillion options when you don't like a sandbox (I prefer the term "open world") game since 99% of games ARE scripted.

However, I *know* that I am on the right track with my "ultimate idea of a open-world game"...how do I know? Because some of the MOST successful games in history are open-world games. (GTA, Sim City, WoW [sort of], Far Cry 3 etc..etc..). Open World = More Freedom, More Options etc...

And some of the most successful games in history aren't open world.

Open world doesn't automatically mean better. A more linear world allows the creator greater ability to tell a tight story by allowing more control. This is why you still enjoy reading a great book. Books are hardly "open world". They're as linear as you can get, but you can derive great satisfaction from a well crafted novel.

Not saying that open world is bad. Just that there is a place for both, and one isn't necessarily better than the other. Just depends what you are looking for.
