Total Cost Comes to Around $3381 with out Storage options. Add an Adaptec 5805 and your total comes to About $3700 with out drives. Shop ebay for Adaptec 5805 and the price may come down to around $3,500.

Storage
Storage will not be part of the total sum, you will need to add those on; this is where things can get very expensive, exotic, and wild. Depending on the size a Fusion I/O drive can cost two thousand (80GB/1.5GB/s) to fourteen thousand dollars. But it will make your PC the fastest in all of your state or city.

More budget friendly are Two Quantity 80GB Intel X25-M (in raid 0)- $383 each for a grand cost of $766 for 160GB plus $300-ish for an Adaptec 5805 but can be found for less than $200 on ebay.

Slightly More Budget Friendly. Seagate 15k.6 146GB 15,000RPM Hard Drives about 200-220 each. Plus Two 1TB drives in RAID 5. Adaptec 5805 or similar SAS controller required.

Even More Budget Friendly. Four 1TB Drives in RAID 0+1 and Four Western Digital 300GB Velocirators in RAID 0+1 . Using Adaptec 5805 or similar.

Most Budget Friendly, Same the four 1TB drives in RAID 0+1 but excludes the ADAPTEC 5805 and takes a performance hit using the motherboards RAID controller.

It's fine considering it has 10 15K RPM drives and a 1.6kW PSU. The 140mm door fans were moved to a modified side panel and the hotswap bay fans reversed so they blow out the front. Considering there is music playing around me practically 24/7 it would have to be real loud to be noticeable. I can hear the seeks of the 15K drives if doing something extremely i/o intensive. I like to hear them - it sounds like rain falling on a skylight.

I love what you have and am in awe, but isn't it over kill just to surf the internet's series of tubes?

(Sorry to the opening poster for getting off topic)

Don't worry about getting off topic, it all helps me learn.

The "Series of Tubes" is an on going joke. Senator Ted Stevens has no clue what he's talking about.

MOCKUP NUMBER TWO, WITH HIGH END STORAGE COSTS

Core i7 Extreme Edition 3.2GHz $999.99 (i7 940 2.93GHz, $569)
ASUS Rampage II Extreme 388.99
Crucual Ballistix 6GB 259.00
Lian Li Case $220
PC Power and Cooling T12W 1,200 watt PSU with ESA $509.99 (ESA is for overlclocking, not recomended for novices)
Video Card: ATi HD 4890 $250
Sound Card: ASUS Xonar D2X: $200
Blu-Ray Drive: Pioneer BDR-203BKS $240
DVD-RAM and -/+R-W drive: ASUS DRW-2014S1T (Supports 14x Dual Layer DVD-RAM) $23
CD Burner $17 Lite On DH-52R2P-04

Aftermarket Heatsink $50

Vista Ultimate RETAIL (OEM sucks, Retail Rocks) $272.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16832116473

Total Cost Comes to Around $3681 with out high end keyboard, mouse, monitor, or printer. Mouse and Keyboard are very personal prefrences, I like very old vintage keyboards and hight tech mice. Others do not. Logitech Seems to be the most popular brand with Microsoft in close second, Razor in third.

Assuming you will pay retail and not shop ebay for a SAS controller, your STORAGE COSTS will come to:

Setup Number #1
Adaptec 5805 SAS controller $525

All SSDs are RUN in RAID 0.
6x Intel X-25 80GB SSD $383 each, Total $2298
2x Segate 15,000 RPM 450GB SAS Drives (Model ST3450856SS) for high speed mass storage approx $525 each. Total $1050
2x Western Digital WD20EADS 2TB Hard Drives (Raid 1/ motherboard controller /for system backup) $300 each.

Total Storage Cost
$3648

Same As Above, Except for Higher Quantity and bigger, faster, 28 Port Adaptec 52445 (vs 8 Port 5805).

Setup #2
12x Intel 80GB X25m $4,596 (.9TB total, blazing fast)
Adaptec 52445 (approx) $1,200
4x 2TB Drives in RAID 0+1 (motherboard SATA RAID, included with motherboard), total cost for drives $1,200.

Setup #3
24x Intel 80GB X25m $9,192 (1.9TB total, blazing fast)
Adaptec 52445 (approx) $1,200
4x 2TB Drives in RAID 0+1 on Motherboard Host Controller for system backups or 2x 15,000 RPM 450GB SAS HDD- $1,200

Estimated Cost(s), complete systems with storage

Setup Number #1
$3,648 for Storage + $3,681 for system components = $7,329

Setup Number #2
$6,996 For Storage + $3,681 for system components = $10,677

Setup Number #3
$11,592 for Storage + $3,681 for system components = $15,273

Add $3,000 if you want a FusionIO drive

*The more drives you add to a RAID 0 array, the faster it gets. Each Intel X25-M can Read 250+ MB/s. Four X25-M SSDs Will have a theretical throughput of 1GB/s, Six should push 1.5GB/s. Twelve will have an estimated (real world may vary) throughput of 3GB/s. Compare that to a typical 7200 rpm HDD's through put of 50-90 MB/s.

If you want real sound go with yamaha and after market speakers like the ones I have(KLIPSCH) or definitive. My sound system is a yamaha reciever and klipsch speakers totaling over 2200 watts.

I am aware of what a case is and what a cooler is, the first link is for a case and the next two are chillers as it says.

Your parents probably have one their cheap HTIBs, in which case they do suck. Onkyo has long been an audiophile brand, many of their products are sold in high end specialty shops but you won't find Sony or Pioneer there. Get above $600 and Onktyo's HTIB's sound really good, I speak from experience; I have heard the HT-S9100THX and bought my parents a cheap $300 disappointment in a box.

For my home theater, I have an Integra DTR7.6 which is made by Onkyo, connected to Paradigm Monitor 7 (which blow the old Klipschs away), I switched this receiver out for a Pioneer VSX and the sound was tinny, garbled, and lacked any sort of smooth natural sound found in the Onkyo Integra. I can see how you would have a negative view of Onkyo if all you ever heard was their bottom end stuff, I guarantee the HT-S9100THX will not disappoint and it light years better than Klipsch (which I got rid of). Go to the AVS forums, ask around and Onkyo will be one of the most revered brands they universally recommend.

Three 24" monitors are better than one 32".

But be careful of what you buy, LCD manufactures love to f**K with the numbers and sell you a 2ms panel when you are really buying a 12ms panel. You can really get screwed.

It does, but a grand spent on Onkyo is like five grand spent on bose. My local paradigm dealer and custom installer recommends Onkyo for those on a budget.

Onkyo blows, I have had two systems and my parents have two different ones in their house, they all suck. If you want real sound go with yamaha and after market speakers like the ones I have(KLIPSCH) or definitive. My sound system is a yamaha reciever and klipsch speakers totaling over 2200 watts.

The only line of onkyo I have seen is what best buy caries. I love the klipsch speakers but want a bigger system. I have dual 600 watt 12" woofers hooked to my yamaha and piss off the block I live in. I will look into their other lines for my new system.

It does, but a grand spent on Onkyo is like five grand spent on bose. My local paradigm dealer and custom installer recommends Onkyo for those on a budget.

Yes for those on a budget, you get what you pay for.

The old Onkyo M-510 of yesteryear was the killer AMP to have. It's performance was just as good (some said better) than the Krell AMPs costing 5x to 10x more. Many of the Orginal Owers still have them and swear by them. Onkyo has long been the price to performance leader, providing better products for less money.

I would not recommend any of the cosmos cases. I have the cosmos 1000 and I just absolutely hate this piece of junk, worst case I've ever used. It's build quality is horrible, it randomly makes creaking sounds every so often, sounds like some of the cheapass plastic (they use way too much plastic too) is overstressed or something. Another caveat, the stupid pci expansion slot screw holes do not align with the pci cards, and are about an entire inch off (have tried multiple motherboards and expansion cards with no luck).

Yeah, go with a coolermaster HAF instead. Much better cooling and room for cables / watercooling. Someone keeps posting a parts list with a 4890 included for the videocard (amongst other things). The OP is asking for a pc built to be capable of doing anything, with price out the window. and your recommending a 4890?? Dual gtx 295's or 3 285's would be a lot more sensible for this build. I mean if you had millions of dollars and you didn't work, would you be frugal and get a 3500 computer or would you drop 7k and have the best computer ever. Yeah, damn straight.

Wow, you guys need to learn to quote.

As for the monitor, definitely get the 32" over 3x24" (that's just stupid, unless you're doing something that will actually make use of all 3 simultaneously).

I have $2500 sunk into the audio in my living room. The anp was 1200 or so and the woofers were another 1000 and the speakers were several hundred and the cables were a few hundred. 500-600 LMAO

I don't think 3 moniters is the way for me to go. What would be the purpose of 3 moniters?
