If you don't want to spend the dough on a 1.2(I would if I could.) Check me signature for detail on how to buy a Duron 700 from Buy.com for $70 w/ 3 yrs warranty. You can also buy a T/Bird 850 from them for $145 w/ coupon.

i'd say go with duron 700 and KT7 RAID. i got my duron from mwave.com and it runs over a gig at 1.7 v on stock HS.

it's a coin toss between the asus and the abit boards. they are both great boards and comparable in many aspects. If i was going to use raid i would have gotten the ABIT but i wasn't so i picked up the Asus

If you are looking to overclock:
Get an Asus A7V or Abit KT7 and a Duron or Tbird.

If you are not looking to OC:
Get the MSI K7T Pro and whatever CPU fits your budget.

When searching for the mobos on pricewatch, I generally just put in the model (A7V, KT7, K7T, etc.). Searching for AMD, or Tbird will get a lot of worthless results.

Get the abit KT7 rather than the asus board. It is better if you don't want to go play with jumpers every time you change multipliers while testing it. After the testing period, it doesn't really matter.

there's a reason the ABIT boards are known for their overclocking freindiness via their softmenu systems....

Abit KT7 RAID (or no raid if you please) or the A7v

any duron or tbird will serve you well. Just depends how much ya wanna pay.

Read up on the KT7 and A7V. They are the two best boards out there right now, and you should decide on which has the features you want. Either way you go, you cant go wrong.

Personally, for the price and looking at the features, I would go with the Epox 8KTA+ motherboard. I have always liked Epox and they release very good products. I've used Epox motherboards for 3 years and only use my Asus A7V now because the original 8KTA (no plus) didn't have jumper settings for multipliers, etc.

The 8KTA+ is very similar to the A7V in features. In fact, its almost identical, but Epox puts on an ISA slot instead of the silly AMR slot.

The 8KTA+ also sells for $40 less than the Asus board and $50 less than the Abit.

I'm going to get one to go with a Duron 700@950 for a friend of mine.
