The best "quiet" 80mm case fan?

I think I have narrowed it down to the Adda 26.2 CFM/22.5dBA quiet 80mm fan, or the PC Power & Cooling Silencer Fan rated at 28CFM and 20dBA.

Which in reality is more powerful or quieter?
From the specs the PC P&C fan looks superior, but specs can be massaged to look better.

Also, does anyone have an Alpha p7125 with really quiet fans (like the Adda 13CFM/16.1db(A)60mm ones)? Or another quiet slot-a solution that will allow some mild overclocking?

well, one thing is for sure, the PCPowerCOoling Silencers are NOT 28CFM. I have a 28CFM rated Sunon that is definately more powerful than the Silencers I have. In fact, the silencer's are roughly as powerful as panaflo l1A's(with the L1As beign slightly louder and slightly more powerful).

Ok, and the Panaflo L1A is rated at 24cfm and 21dBA.

Wow, so it seems that the silencer isn't even as powerful as a 24cfm fan...interesting...

The quiet Sunon is rated at 28dBA, definitely louder than the other solutions, why are you guys so into them? Good balance of noise and power?

The best quiet 80mm fan would be the Papst 8412NGML (26.5CFM@19dB) but I don't know any place that sells them other than in Europe. I haven't tried the Addas or Panaflos, but I have a few Silencers (28CFM@20dB) and Nidecs (25CFM@19.8dB) - and the Nidecs feel stronger than the Silencers, even though they are rated with lower CFM.

Rain Man-

Do you feel those Papst fans are as quiet as the Silencers?

And what is the difference between Sintec Bearing and Ball Bearing? (I see that Papst fans come in both varieties?)

I do not think that it is Sunon, they are too noisy, I had some old fans in stock from somewhere, and those are quieter, so I am using those

Problem is that all of the fan manufacturers use their own testing procedures, with no real standard. So one person's 27.2cfm fan feels a heck of a lot like anothers 23.5cfm fan (personal observation of YS Tech versus Sunon 60mm fans). Noise level as well seems relative, but not quite as widely varying as the airflow (noise at 1 foot measurement is harder to fudge I guess).

Kind of reminds me of the 42cfm claimed by the slot coolers... maybe when blowing downwind in a hurricane...

So 2Cool - have you had a 80mm L1A in your shop? How is it relative to the Sunon in terms of flow and noise?

I wouldn't be able to tell because I don't have any.

I believe 'Sintec' is their way of saying sleeve bearing. Sleeve bearing fans don't last as long as ball bearing, but some companies like Papst and Nidec make good ones that last a while and are quieter, with no important difference is life span - say 6 years MTBF for ball bearing and 5 for sleeve.

depends on the Sunon fan compared to the l1A panaflo's. the 1.4W Sunon 80mm's are more powerful, whereas the 2.0W Sunon's are way more powerful.

Everybody has a unique name to call their special sleeve bearing fans, let me know if you guys know any other ones...

ADDA = Hypro Bearing
Nidec = Long Life Sleeve Bearing
Panaflo = Hydro Bearing
Papst = Sintec Bearing

Ok, how about the Nidecs? Are they just as quiet as the Silencers in real world use?

Would any of you guys argue against sleeve bearing fans? They seem like a good compromise to me.

So 2Cool, which fan would you recommend. I think you have the most experience with fans and cooling product? I purchased my Gorb from you. Thanks and it was an awesome price. I currently have the stock sunon that came with my Enlight 7237 hanging from the power supply slots blowing on my processor. I am considering purchasing 2 80L1A's (power supply and back of case) and 1 120l1A (front); 68.9CFM in and 48CFM out with the rest escaping through holes.

the sunon's that come built into 7237s are rated at 30CFM

panaflo l1A's are rated at 24CFm. The sunon 1.4w is more powerful, but the panaflo is a lot quieter(28db vs 24 db).

zod, Sleeve bearing fans are cheaper and supposedly quieter, but the first two fans you were looking at were both ball bearings. The noise generated by either sleeve or ball bearing at low speed won't make much difference because they don't spin fast enough to make much noise.

Besides having slightly shorter lifespan, I don't see anything wrong with these "enhanced" sleeve bearing fans. Just make sure you don't pay more for them than the ball bearing fans.

And don`t forget ball bearing type last a lot longer then the sleeve type so for the best quality get the ball bearing type.

Well, to me having the fan last 4 years instead of 5 isnt a big deal if, during those 4 years, it pushes as much air but is quieter than an equivalent ball bearing fan.

So this is what I have it "narrowed" down to

Adda.................26.2cfm...22.5dBA..$8.00

PC P&C Silencer...28.0cfm...20.0dBA..$12.00..->but in reality less than 28cfm

Panaflo L1A........24.0cfm...21.0dBA..$7.00...->more powerful/louder than PC P&C

Papst 8412NGML....26.5cfm...19.0dBA...$?.....->only avail in Europe?

Nidec................25.0cfm...19.8dBA...$?.....->Stronger than PC P&C, can't find them tho

That about cover it? (Not that I know which I'll go with yet)

Any other fans I missed?

If I put them right up to my ear, the Nidecs are a -tad- louder, but noticeably stronger.
