The Black Pearl(quite an original name ) is the evga liquid cooled 8800ultra. Two of these in sli hit 25k in 3dmark06 apparently, and it will only set you back $1800!!

http://www.evga.com/articles/364.asp

never heard of a 3dmark06 score even near 25k, what do 8800gtx in sli get?

anyways thought i would share

Too bad for those that buy these, a single next gen card will match or beat that score, and will only set you back 1/3 the price.

The ones that buy it can most likely afford it. And then buy two next gen as well without batting an eye. You have to remember that there are some super rich people out there with money to burn. I am not one of them, yet. Working on it. But I still may not burn this type of money on a setup like this.

thanks captain obvious. in order to be able to buy something you have to be able to buy it... wow that's some superior economic skill you tapped into right there!

ps - being able to afford something does not make it a wise purchase. if you're "working on" being that poor with your spending habits, wow.

Most people who can purchase that with ease are smart enough to not do so. generally people who can amass decent wealth are intelligent enough not to get suckered into that type of marketing.

Most ppl that have the money to afford something like this are likely not the ones interested. Its their kids that ask for a setup like this and the parents usually don't question it much.

I'm afraid that keys is right in his opinion. While I am not a super-rich person, I deal with a lot of them (for business reasons). While it's highly unlikely that those super-rich people are hardware enthusiasts (If they are even remotely take interest in hardware, they'll probably have Alienware, Voodoo, etc. build a rig for them), but there are people who use $100 bills as if they were $1 bills. The way they spend money is, just surreal.

Jeeze, that score is 5x what my 7900gto gets. Of course, I paid 1/6th that amount 9 months ago.

Yet those same people who bought these would probably go off and buy the next gen stuff again.. not just one, but two.. or maybe 4 of them if quad SLi exists.

They did. But the performance difference was huge and memory was doubled. (256->512) Not to mention the very attractive and efficient HSF drew lots of interest.

Yeah- I know a few. They buy cars and vacations and summer homes instead of video cards. But if they were into gaming/hardware they could buy 4 of these every weekend.
