I don't understand the OP's point. Seems a misguided post, to me.

I'm sure there is something to be said about class differences within the black population, but probably that discussion is best mostly left to black people.

It does strike me that the stats show middle-class black people tend to have less inherited wealth than their white counterparts and are more likely to suffer when the economy goes bad. There's a nasty 'last in, first out' logic to a lot of these things.

The other thing is I bet there are interesting things that could be said about how class tensions work within the black population (e.g. Chris Rock's infamous n-word bit always struck me as having a lot to do with class). But again, only those directly involved probably know how that works.

Neil is one of my favorite people. Arguably he has done more to crater religion and prop up science than any other single person. One of my favorite bits from him was when he discussed how Isaac Newton devolved into religious thinking when he ran into the limits of his own understanding. It is a singularly powerful explanation of the human weakness for magic. If you haven't seen it, look it up on youtube.

Frankly I am shocked that anybody would diss on Neil. He has one of the least abrasive personalities I have seen in the intellectual crowd. He is the consummate anti-Hitchens.

He told a story about being interviewed about a plasma burst from the sun on a local Fox affiliate in 1989. "I'd never before in my life seen an interview with a black person on television for expertise that had nothing to do with being black. And at that point, I realized that one of the last stereotypes that prevailed among people who carry stereotypes is that, sort of, black people are somehow dumb. I wondered, maybe ... that's a way to undermine this sort of, this stereotype that prevailed about who's smart and who's dumb. I said to myself, 'I just have to be visible, or others like me, in that situation.' That would have a greater force on society than anything else I could imagine.

This is the dumbest post i've seen here in a long time. Why do liberals need to explain that there are decent black people that are middle class and are doing well in life?

How about doing some research that is not propagated by the media. First google search for you is Black Wall Street. They were doing great until guess what, the **** came and undid it.
