The Box starring Cameron Diaz ****SPOILERS****

Alright, I couldn't find another thread about this movie, probably because the search function sucks. But for those of you that saw the movie.... did you leave the theater like, wut?

Aliens in the lightning, water gateways that lead to eternal salvation that means murdering your wife, mind control that makes your nose bleed, a Truman Show-esque cast of imposters.... It was like a movie with more and more questions, and no answers.

What is the concept of the movie based off? I seem to remember reading a short story or something about a button and it kills someone blah blah blah.

It started out really good. I liked the 70's setting, but to take the story down some alien path was disappointing. And then to make the alien or whatever the "employers" were be like completely unknown was just stupid. What was the purpose of the test. It just turned out senseless. I compare it to Knowing, which I thought was really good, but the movie ended with it making sense. The Box ended making no sense.

I saw it more as a movie about "free will", "morality", "greed", and "sacrifice".

Here's something to ponder. The box is supposedly some advanced technology we can't fathom nor see that can supposedly kill people, but it looks empty inside.

So who really chose to kill cameron diaz and the other wife? Was it the person who pushed the button or was it the husband/cyclops?

The wierd faced guy was testing people who pushed the button if they would take responsibility for their actions by living with their blind & deaf kid rather than taking the "easy" way out. Remember when he said that he had "hope" for cameron diaz when she said she felt love for him when she first saw his disfigured face? He was hoping that she would chose to live with their handicapped kid.

That's how I saw it. I enjoyed it but the alien stuff was kinda wierd and off I'll say.

What? They clearly spell out that aliens received the Mars transmissions and are now testing humanity to see if they deserve to exist. If they don't then they will "accelerate their extinction." The afterlife... any technology sufficiently advanced will be indistinguishable from magic.

Once I heard it was by the same guy who did Donnie Darko I was instantly turned off. Shockingly enough, the reviews indicate it is senseless, impossible to follow, and tries way too hard. I'm not sure my heart can take any more surprises like that this decade!

It's a sci-fi metaphor for God, obviously.. Dressed up for an increasingly agnostic society, like "Knowing."
