I know it's another "here's my build, any suggestions" post. But I could use any feedback, pos or neg, that you guys might offer.

Mobo
EPoX EP-9NPA+Ultra
Processor
AMD 3000+venice - by the way, can anyone tell me wtf rev E is? I saw that searching pricewatch.
Vid Card
6800GT
Memory
OCZ performance 2x512MB PC3200. I could save a few bucks going with the value series, much diff in performance, though?
I do intend to do some minor OCing, eventually.

I've already got the SATA hard drives, DVD drive, floppy, OS, keyboard and mouse. Also picked up the 1905fp monitor posted in hotdeals last week(20ms).

My biggest dilema now is the Case/PS. I like the look of the Sonata. Is the stock PS any good? Should I bump it to SonataII? Or a PSless case and separate PS? Ease of install is an issue as my hands are big and have limited dexterity. So bigger is better, but if the sonata is as good as I've read, I can manage.

The Sonata II has some "fixes" over the original Sonata, and costs about the same. As an added bonus the power supply gets bumped from the 380w to a 450w.

I have the Sonata, I think it's a great case. The one big thing it is missing is a removable motherboard tray.

Dont even think about using the PSU that comes with a case

get a PSUless case, then buy a QAULITY one from a brand name (ie, Seasonic, Enermax, Antec, OCZ, Fortron)

Wait, don't use the Sonata PSU and you suggest Antec as a PSU to get

Anyway, I just put together a computer for a friend with similar specs as yours and went with an Antec 3000b and a Seasonic 380watt PSU. I think we're going to have to get an aftermarket cooling solution for his X800 because it's by far the noisiest thing in the computer.

So is the stock sonata smartpower crap or not? If I can use it, that'll save me some money and a few less right hooks from my wife.

So 2x1GB valueram would be good or 2x512 Patriot or OCZ?
Also, does rev E mean anything in relation to the processor? I saw that in a pricewatch search for 3000+ venice. REV-E came up.

I think Rev-E just meand venice core, which is a good thing.

Unless you're going to do some serious overclocking, the Sonata PSU should be fine for you.

High performance ram doesn't get you a whole lot of gain for A64. I'd rather have 2 gigs of valueram than a single of high performance.

Sonata II is worth it for the improvements and the better PSU. Stock Sonata II PSU is a perfectly good Antec model.

Especially if you're going to play all three at the same time :Q

Wow 370 posts in a month, yet you tell him to buy a case without a PSU, when Antec makes the Sonata and the PSU in it.

I guess you are just getting your post count up.

Yes you are right, don't buy the Sonata II as the 450w Antec Power supply won't be as good as a store bought 450w power supply.
