As you may know or may not or care or may not or bite my ass or may not...last night I posted a thread, this one about my failed attempt to get wireless networking up and running.
I had said I was going to run a cable, and I just finished. It's not the proper way, I.E. wallplates on either side etc, b/c this is an apt and I'm not investing that kind of time.
I punched a hole (with a 12" long screwdriver) thru both walls in the corner of the room (luckily, I have a stud finder so it was easy to ensure I didn't try to poke the unpokeable) and snaked the cable thru. It's about a 50 foot run.
Embarassingly, terminating the cable was the bitch part. I have a cable tester and for some reason, I just couldn't get one end right. 5 tried later and I've got a working cable. I used those hammer-on, coaxial staples to run the cable along the baseboards in both rooms and voila!!!! Totally secure LAN connection from the switch to the HTPC.
Feel free to say "Hooray for you."
