how bad is it with all those TCs?

It's pretty bad. Not much point in doing it really. The only reason I had all those TCs is because they came bundled with lenses that I bought used. The price was really good, but the sellers would only sell the lens with the TC together.

Oddly enough, the 2X TC had lower image quality than the two 1.4X TCs stacked on top of each other.

The Sigma 1.4X TC is stupid because it has a protruding element that will bang up against the rear element of many lenses. This is the same for the Canon TCs. This makes it unusable for nearly all non-telephoto lenses and many telephoto lenses as well.

The Kenko 1.4X TC is nice and sharp.

With all three stacked, focusing was extremely difficult and the bad light gathering capabilities made such a setup impractical for basically everything. This includes moon shots, birding, wildlife, etc. Sharpness and contrast also dropped enough to make it pointless. Might as well shoot at a less focal length and crop.

My bag isn't big enough to hold all my gear.

ooh. I'm totally gonna track down that shot that the other photog at the baseball game took of me. I had the Big Toy: AF-S Nikkor 400mm f/2.8D II on a D2H. Lots of fun, and a huge front element. College newspaper uses that for field sports photography.
sorry, blurry

I'll try Craigslist first. eBay has been a second option ever since their fee hike.

I have a few of them; some work, some I use for parts.

I'm really digging B&W photos with the D80 at ISO3200. Faux film grain FTW.

This thread definitely needs more prawns. C'mon people!

Just sold this guy. A relic from my Canon SLR days. One more.

edit: will be testing this lens against the canon ef 1.8 II. also, i'll probably pick up an OM to EOS adapter and K to EOS and test against the OM 50/1.8 and the super tak 55/1.8

just got the lens last week, haven't done much with it.

the combo doesn't look bad. the 'chrome' rebel 2k certainly looks better than the 'chrome' xt and xti have. i have a thing for chrome cameras, unfortunately other than the M8 there aren't any modern ones. ok, there's also the zeiss ikon and some bessas. but those are hardly modern.

I think I have that exact lens. Shame I didn't bring the Nikkormat FTN body that goes with it back to college with me after winter break at home. I only brought the lens because it has an IR focus correction mark so I can do IR photography with my D50.

I'll look forward to the tests. I just played the eBay lottery and managed to snag a 55mm AI-S Micro-Nikkor for cheap. I'll test that next Wednesday (FedEx Ground is slow as nails).

looking for old ricohs is a great way to get some k-mount glass on the cheap. just remove the ricoh pin and bingo. also, they made cameras for sears.

Well my new lens arrived. Good news and bad news.

Bad news: I ordered a macro lens, and didn't receive it. I was supposed to receive a 55mm Micro-Nikkor f/2.8 in great condition. My macro photography plans have been put on hold.

Good news: They mistakenly sent me a lens worth much more than I paid for the Micro-Nikkor. 55mm Nikkor-S f/1.2, factory AI'd.

Hello there!

So I get to play around with some low-low-light photography, clean up the lens a little (lots of dust/dirt on the outside), then sell it for double what I paid and possibly pick up a bigger Micro-Nikkor (maybe a 105mm f/4).

DOF is brutal at f/1.2 when I'm trying to manually focus with my D80's "green dot" indicator. It's focused on the near edge of the "F" key.

Still, that's an impressive shot for ISO100 at 1/30s in a dimly lit room. It's a little soft wide-open, but what isn't?
