I enjoy the show much more than TG:USA. Carolla very much reminds me of Jeremy Clarkson if he were Jewish. John Salley needs to go and be replaced with someone that has maybe been in the industry.

I don't agree. He's a car guy and he seems to have good chemistry with the rest of the hosts. Plus, it's comedy to watch him try to fold himself up and get behind the wheel of some of the cars he has driven on the show.

gratuitous black guy too. Carolla's had some sort of whispered black jokes I've barely heard a few times on the show

It is a decent show. I am not in love but it actually keeps my attention as I watch it, so that says something...

I loved the race between the Ferrari 308 and the Camry as well as the DeLorean vs a minivan (minivan smoked the DeLorean). I wished they had taken them around a road course though...that would have been too funny!

Tonight's show was ok, not as good as last week's. Everyone was asking why Salley is on the show, well it's apparently so his donked out athlete buddies can show off their cars on every episode.

The Car Show, like TG:USA, is insufferable. Other than being a glutton for punishment, I don't know how I manage to get through these lackluster offerings on a weekly basis.

The "0-60" segment has some potential, but it typically ends up being a vehicle for Carolla's schtick. The few actual car reviews they do are boring and typically end without drawing any conclusions or offering insight. The "competitions" are just stupid. Anytime someone is interviewed in the studio, it makes me cringe. Finally, the slot-car races and Carnac pieces need binned...immediately.

For the record, I like Adam Carolla. He appears to have some car cred and it is a shame that his humor gets in the away. I feel if he took a more serious tone, wielding his humor with finesse and subtlety instead of like a jackhammer, the show would be more watchable.

John Salley is a complete waste of time; everyone knows this.

Dan Neil comes off as a pompous ass. There's just something about him that rubs me the wrong way. It seems obvious that he has a great deal of knowledge, yet listening to him talk makes me want to punch him in the face.

Matt Farah seems to have some potential. He seems most like a "regular guy" and also appears to have some real information to share. He provides a nice contrast to, say, Neil, but could use some additional polish.

And like TG:USA, where are the frickin' in-depth car reviews? You can often make the same case for TG:UK, but when the UK show does provide a real review, the cinematography alone usually has me drooling like an idiot. At least the UK hosts have some charisma and the writing is light years ahead of the competition.

As it stands, TG:UK and Fifth Gear are the only car shows worth a damn.

those shows have also been on the air for years

You're absolutely right and I totally get that. However, that being said, these proven/refined platforms provide valuable insight into a successful formula for reviewing a car whilst making it entertaining. I'm of the opinion that cloning those techniques and then slowly adding their own touches would appear to make a great deal of sense.

Both TG:USA and The Car Show (TCS) are guilty of spending entirely too much time on something other than cars. To be more specific, gimmicky "comparisons" and "competitions" that aren't even remotely enjoyable to watch. Yes, TG:UK seemingly spends more time with this than they used to, but as you've stated, their hosts have had way more time to perfect their craft.

TG:USA seemingly spends 80% of their time on one dumb segment, another 15% on a poorly done interview and track lap, and 5% on a single car review. TCS is all over the board, typically spending more time talking about cars, but still wasting too much time silly segments. Both shows need to jettison the majority of their respective hosts.

Don't get me wrong; I want both shows to succeed. I just hope they can catch up sooner than later.

Top Gear US needs less silly truck segments.

Top Gear USA seems to have gotten worse since season 1 in regard to their... shall I say "stage presence"? The show is almost entirely clips! It almost feels like a basement-made, fan production of a Top Gear series rather than a professionally-made production.

You're right on the mark. The hosts have zero chemistry. Tanner Faust is an incredibly competent wheel-man, but his comments sound 100% scripted. Adam Ferrara is simply dreadful and seems to have about as much car knowledge as a dog groomer. Rutledge Wood seems to genuinely be a gearhead, but I've already grown tired of his flannel and insipid commentary.

TG USA is just challenges now and that irritates the hell out me

Another direct hit. Fingers crossed someone can right the ship.

Very much agree with your analysis of TCS. Carolla and Farah are good enough, but the other two need to go. John Salley besides being an NBA star, has no business on the show as he contributes little. Neil is just an ass. He seems to prefer minivans and boring electric cars which is great, but for a show like this, you need someone that also like gas guzzling monsters. I can only equate him to Jules relentless posts about Maximas, bikes and the Elise

tonight's episode was really good

pretty much entirely about cars minus the tiny bit of Bruce Jenner's family nonsense (but it had to come up) and Farrah's "dream"

I like the 0-60 segment on the car show. Occasionally they seem to get a real conversation going about a car and you hear their actual opinions rather than them reading a script.

The Top Gear UK news section has become way too scripted now like everything they say is leading up to a punchline.

I thought this was their best episode, though the skydiving felt pointless. Great to see that Adam bought that 3.5CSL - he had been talking about it on the podcast but never actually said he had bought it. I guess he must be doing fairly well with the podcast.

I get why they cut Salley from the show. But dropping it to 30 minutes? Really?

They couldn't find enough car related content to stick in an hour (well, 44 minutes if you factor in the ad breaks).

I agree, it is good. I have 4 to watch and have had set to record since episode 1.

From The Man Show to The Car Show.

It hasn't been announced that it has been cancelled, but there hasn't been any new episodes for a while and nothing is scheduled for January either.
