Unbelievable that people can kick a man not only when he's down but when he's dead too.

QFT...in reality even if he mixed even a couple of those drugs in the right combo it could have killed them. I know wellbutrin doesn't play well with a lot of drugs out there. A lot of prescriptions will have in large letters "DO NOT TAKE IF ON ...."

The problem is no centralized pharmacy database. It's a big brother issue as well, but many would accept that risk.

I know. Since when I'm really sick, I take 6 differant medications at once.

Fact is, any man who is sick or sane in any way knows not to take 6 medications at once. And you act like prescription medications can't be abused. Theres plenty of people out there that abuse prescription meds. I think Heath ledger was just tried and just started downing pills. Usually, trying to commit suicide by taking pills is really a sign that you WANT help, and I think that he wanted, but he couldn't get some.

You are really clueless. You know A LOT of elderly take 6+ prescription meds daily. Many people have a handful of pills they have to take each day.

No. Unless...that the first few he took, pushed him into the stupor that provoked the additional takings. Either way, it does not matter. He is dead.

Young, successful handsome young man dead.... not accidental, preventable.

Guys, there are actually valid reasons why he has all those drugs.

1) If we was recovering from surgury, then MD's usually prescribe a long acting opiate (Oxycontin) and a short acting for breakthrough pain (Vicodin).

2) If he had trouble sleeping, his doc prescribed Restoril. But before he saw his doc, he picked up the over-the-counter sleep med.

3) For anxiety, maybe his doctor original prescribed Xanax, but it wasn't doing the trick since it's one of the shortest acting benzodiazepines, so the doc prescribes Valium.

All valid reasons for having oxycodone, hydrocodone, alprazolam, diazepam, temazepam, & doxylamine.

But, as to why was was taking BOTH alprazolam & diazepam at the same time is beyond me.

But yeah, 3 benzo's in your system at once is a hell of a drug.

No way. CELEB doctors hand that out like candy. Regular doctors for regular people who rip you a new one if you asked for it.
Thats right, Regular doctors hand out prednasone like candy instead, which is another FDA fuckup from hell.

I was watching abc news tonight and they said the prescriptions could have been purchased online.
Then they did a short peice on the ease of getting drugs online.
Its really really easy.
some of the sites only ask for credit card, and why you think you need the drug, symptoms, etc. Doctor reads it and writes the Rx.

Thats a completely different scenario. In that case, that drug cocktail is prescribed and acrefully made so that they interact with each other. And while it is the only thing keeping sick and elderly people alive, you KNOW that all those drugs are wrecking havok in their body.

When I'm sick, I'm not going home and taking an Aspirin, Tylenol's, Nyquil,
and other drugs to fix my sickness.

This was a suicide, I don't know how the hell the police ruled it as accidental.

Only if a single doctor prescribed all that. Celebrities are very good at getting prescriptions from multiple doctors in multiple locations and unless they fully inform each doctor what they have already been prescribed the doctors have no way of knowing.

That is true. Now that I think about it I think I remember reading somewhere that he got some prescription meds in the UK recently while shooting a film there. So it's quite possible that multiple doctors prescribed multiple medications. Still, sad.

He was a young movie star, had the world at his fingertips,
beautiful girlfriend (Michelle Williams) and a daughter.

It just seems like he was lacking some serious common sense.
I say that because of all the prescription drugs found in his system.
He had so much to live for.

I wonder if he wanted to die.

eh. you don't know if it was a suicide. you're depressed, in a bad state of mind from work (which has been said while he was playing the joker), not sleeping, you get a bit of dementia, and you take a few pills, forget what you took, take a few more. you get multiple scripts from multiple doctors who don't check what you already have...

could it have been a suicide? sure. but neither you nor i know that for sure.

You highly doubt it... but you don't know. Your speculation is equally clueless, so slow your roll.

Equally clueless? He was unable to sleep and had some kind of issue with pain. This was what I was first informed of within days of it happening. Within those same few days it was stated that the mix of the drugs he was prescribed (by different doctors) was lethal. He was successful, always seemed to be level-headed and somewhat shy of the limelight, and had a girlfriend and a kid. All of these are facts.

Meanwhile people are saying he killed himself based off of the facts that he had prescription drugs in his possession and that painkiller abuse is prevalent these days. That's it.

It seems to be a lot more of a stretch to call suicide than accident given all of the above information. I don't even care that much, I mean yeah it's sad a young, successful person lost his life and his loved ones are being affected(?) by it, but what bothers me is that so many people are so quick to assume the worst and make accusations and generalizations about him. Show some respect.

more like speculation based on the fact that he was young and should have known better than to blindly take so many drugs at once. if he were a geezer i'd buy the pain excuse, but most people his age would think twice before downing such a cocktail.

Without telling any of the doctors about the other medication that he was taking, looking up any of the risks of interactions between them, and taking both the pre- and post-prescribed medication for ALL three conditions, ALL at once.

It's one thing to have all the drugs...it's quite another to TAKE all the drugs.

At first I thought this was going to be another zanejohnson thread...

Depends on the combination and the dosage.

I'm sure it was the sleeping pills combined with the opiates that did him in, probably by depressing his breathing.

depends what you mean by "buzzed", those sorts of pills just knock you out. Taking the anti anxiety pills + opiates would be sort of like not being able to feal pain either physical or mental, also they would make you very tired (and depress you breathing and maybe kill you).

I've taken anti-depressants/anti-anxiety with opiates gotten high as giraffe pussy.

His medicine cabinet musta been laid out like a Whitman's Sampler. It sorta sounds like he was a chronic pill-popper and he just decided one night that he wasn't high enough for his liking and went crazy.

Oh and far from knocking you out, once you develop a tolerance for painkillers and sleeping pills, that shit can keep you awake and strung out for days.

Well, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that this was an accident, but it definitely isn't something that could "happen to anyone". For one thing all of us normal people would have a damn hard time getting all those drugs in the first place, now we probably all could be going to multiple doctors and faking illnesses, or just plain buying them illegally, but that isn't something "normal" people do, thats something drug addicts do. Same for taking them all at the same time, "normal" people are smart enough to take only the prescribed amount, and not mix drugs with negative interactions, only a drug addict would take all these drugs at the same time.

Now I know "kicking a man while he's down" is frowned upon, but this isn't some random happen to anyone sort of thing, this is a serious drug addict overdosing and dying, and the result is now that he has left a child with no father and for that he is a bad person imo. IF you are some random dude on the street and want to do drugs thy go right ahead and fuck yourself up, none of us care, but when you have a kid like that you have an obligation as a parent to not abuse drugs, and he failed, making him a bad parent and a bad person. That is all I have to say on this subject, he was a great actor but clearly not a great person.

Those pills aren't going to cure a "sick" person. They're all depressants and/or opiates. Most doctors are reluctant to prescribe even one of those drugs listed above. They will never prescribe all of them.

I'm in the medical profession, and I've worked in pain clinics before. People come in with decades of debilitating back pain from hard labor, with parts of their brains blown out, with hardware in their spines, etc. The doctors won't even prescribe most of these people even 1 opiate. Benzodiazepenes are not commonly used nowadays by doctors on an outpatient basis. Their use is mainly inpatient sedation. SSRI's are better for anxiety. As far as sleep problems go, again it's not a good idea to treat them pharmacologically on an outpatient basis, especially in a young person. I have actually yet to see a young person being prescribed any sort of sleeping pills.
