Being from (and currently in) WI, I had never heard of this. Interestingly enough, this article has popped up all over my FB newsfeed in the past few days. It seems NOBODY here has heard of this little geographical tid-bit about our fine state.

I also live in Wisconsin and had not heard about this. I also hadn't seen it in my Facebook feed, but I barely pay attention to that. If I lived closer maybe I'd go, but 2.5 hours is a bit of a drive to look at a plaque and get a coin.

yeah - 3+ hours for me. I'm not up in that area too often ever either. Maybe a nice autumnal drive with the wife or something..... nah.

I've been within five miles of the spot but never there. I have a sister in Wausau so I'll have to beg her to score me one of those coins.

Guilty. Friend from Wisconsin linked that on her FB page.

Actually, it's just the center of the Northern half of the Western Hemisphere.

A bit underwhelming.

45th Parallel Distillery by New Richmond is probably a better destination choice in Wisconsin.

Meh. The orientation of the meridians is totally arbitrary BS made up by humans. I don't see anything particularly special about this.

My thoughts exactly. If you gave the Earth to a random alien civilization and asked them to point out the center, the chance that they'd pick out that location is nearly zero because human's definition is based on an arbitrary line. Heck, even humans had a hard time deciding on where the arbitrary line should lie. Here is a list of different arbitrary locations that have been used: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prime_meridian#List_of_prime_meridians_on_Earth

That and the center is inside the Earth, not on the outer crust.

Sounds to me you cretins believe that the earth is some sort of globe, or what?

I went to the "four corners" one. It totally changed my life?

I've been to Wisconsin, but never that town. I have been to the four corners of North America at the Peace Gardens on the border of Canada and North Dakota though. I've also been to the four corners of Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico.
