Yeah, that 600p shellshocker isn't so hot, more like lukewarm. They've been $169.99 or $179.99 on their ebay site for a while now. During BF week, the 512GB model was $129.99.

They're pretty "slow" for a PCI-E M.2 drive too. At least, that's my impression with a 256GB model. Was getting seldom but occasional "pauses".

Newegg on ebay, has the Adata SU800 Ultimate 128GB 2.5" SATA SSD for $39.99 FS, new.

That's the cheapest I've seen a 120/128GB SSD go for, new, since the price hikes.

Seems that Adata and Newegg are clearing these out? Not making them any more? Adata just introduced a new, far more expensive, 3D MLC drive, the SX950. (Which, according to the front-page AT preview / press release, doesn't even come in a 120GB-class version.)

Edit: Doesn't seem like the 256GB or 512GB sized SU800 drives are listed on Newegg's ebay site right now, they must have been discounted too, and sold out first. At least, I think so. Sorry I didn't check sooner. (I check like every day, sometimes several times a day, but I was fairly busy this afternoon.)

Edit: Sorry, forgot that we could link Ebay sales, this one's from Newegg:

there's a seller on ebay that has the 128GB adata SU800 for $12 each. Lots sold, but no "seller" feedback. Worth a shot?

Is this a quality drive? Maybe we should have a cheap high quality ssd thread ? Btw the evo 850 1tb drive is on sale for around $385. Not a great price but better than it was when it first came out.

That $12 deal on ebay suddenly disappeared. Probably withdrawn by the powers that be. Seller had 100%(48) feedback but it was all "buys". Maybe they were hacked. 100 sales of the unit b4 it vanished.

Folks, ebay links are allowed but there are rules to that. A seller with 48 feedbacks is not going to be a national seller, and hence is not allowed.

Here are the rules again.

1) No personal eBay links allowed.

2) eBay links must be to a nationally recognized seller with an online presence.
(Amazon, Newegg, Buydig, to name a few)

3) Or a national seller with B&M stores with an online presence.
(Sears, JC Penney, Target, B&H Photo, to name a few). Do not post small regional chains, where mods need to identify the seller.

4) Links must consist of sales featuring only, Buy-It-Now sales. No links with auctions allowed.

hum. This is sad. Yea it was $329 for the evo 850 (newegg). I think amazon matched the price and it is for 72 hours. But you are right it is not a great price (I said that !); looking at partpickr; the low is $250 a few months ago.

I wouldn't but that's just me. The hybrid has the worse of both worlds and even worse it is made by seagate. Personally I would go for a reliable ssd (i prefer samsung, but intel, sandisk and crucial are fairly reliable; though you should do your due dill based on specific model).

$112.99, Cheapest i've seen for a 480GB SSD lately, available from both Amazon and Newegg:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01F9G46Q8/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod...&cm_re=SDSSDA-480G-G26-_-20-173-152-_-Product

SanDisk SSD PLUS 2.5" 480GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SDSSDA-480G-G26

It's been at that price recently, and was 99 on BF, but still a pretty good deal on a decent drive.

https://www.smithbuy.com/refurbished-samsung-256gb-m-2-nvme-drive-mzvpv256hdgl.html

Use coupon code NVME10 to $69.30 with free shipping.

This is a refurb Samsung SM951 NVME m.2 format drive with less than 50 hours power on time. Might be worth a look if you have a machine with an available m.2 slot.

https://www.smithbuy.com/samsung-256gb-m-2-nvme-solid-state-drive-mzvpw256hegl-00000.html

New version of same drive is $114.30 shipped after coupon code.

I know that deal is dead now, but do those drives also support AHCI booting? (I am 99% sure they do).

Are there any NVMe drives (from any manufacturer) that don't support AHCI booting?

Darn, missed that deal on the Samsung 256GB SM951 NVMe. Smoking!

As far as "AHCI booting" - I don't think any NVMe drive supports AHCI? I could be wrong of course, but I own the AHCI version of the SM951, and it's different than the NVMe version.

Edit: The second link isn't sold out yet, but those are NOT the same drive.

First link (refurb) is SM951 NVMe.

Second link (new) is SM961 NVMe. Same as 960 EVO, I think, but without any factory warranty. At $127.00, I'd rather get the 960 EVO 256GB from Newegg for $129.99, with factory warranty.

I think Enterprise happened. Servers tend to swap out drives every two years, and this cycle, they are hellbent on moving off of platters (or at least moving platters to semi-offline storage) and on to SSDs. The demand for flash is ridiculous right now, and nobody making flash wants to budge on production because their profits are through the roof right now.

Sure... they could make more money making more chips, but why go through the effort and spoil those sweet profit margins?

SSD prices seemed to be dropping about a year ago, then plateaued and now are going back up. I get used ones off Ebay if I can find anything decent but even they are not that cheap.
