So.... now that all this 3D memory tech is hitting the streets, we should be seeing cheaper, higher-capacity drives any day now, right?

There will be some initial 512 and 1tb drives but my thought on 4+ tb drives is very late 2017 and more likely mid 2018. Annoucement for 10+tb drives was made some time ago but those drives are not yet on the market. My hope is that by 2020 or 2021 8tb drives will be below $500.

Microcenter has some decent prices but not fantastic prices on evo 850 - 500gb (150); 128GB $128. Not sure how it compares with above adata and of course it is more expensive.

Brand new PNY Technologies 240GB CS900 SATA III 2.5" Internal SSD

Sold by "refurbforless" on ebay, for $72.99 FS.

Can't link, against Ebay linking policy, because this isn't a "well known" vendor. Although, they've been popular fairly recently, by offering sweet deals on brand-new Ryzen 7 and 5 CPUs.

Amazon and newegg have the 150GB evo (sata) for $150. newegg also has m.2 version for $150. $129 is the historical low @ b&h back around Jan but still a pretty decent price.

You seem to have condensed the drive size and model into one word which makes it rather difficult to tell what you're talking about.

Now Newegg on ebay, has the Adata SU800 Ultimate 256GB 3D TLC NAND SATA 2.5" SSD for $79.99 FS. (See price in checkout.)

Limit 5 I think.

These are decent SSDs, 3D NAND should be more durable than competing planar TLC SSDs. The only comparably-priced SSD is a really ultra-low-end one, the Team L5 Lite (planar TLC) 240GB 2.5" SATA. This one should be better. Performance of the 128GB size is decent, and that one only has three of the four controller NAND channels populated.

Edit: Regular price is $109.99 FS.

On the bright side, I've been cleaning out old papers and came across purchases of 20 GB hard drives for $240 and 128 MB RAM sticks for $130 each.

I paid $379 for a 20MB MFM 4 to 1 interleave drive in 1987. Said I would never fill it up, lol!

SSD's haven't fallen fast enough IMO.

Fallen? Look back to the origin of this thread, they're going in the other direction. 240/250 GB drives are about 50% more than they were 18 months ago. Used to be doable under $60, now under $90 is a decent price.

That's the truth.^^^

I picked up a 1TB Sandisk Ultra II for 199 at Amazon before Christmas 2015.
It's 264 now. So it's probably not a bad price compared to other 1 TB SSDs

To be honest, I've not monitored the prices enough to see what direction they are going in other than they aren't below where I expected them to be. I picked up a 1TB SSD for $194 a few years ago and expected the 1TB's to be at $100 to $125 by now and they are nowhere near.

Seems ram prices have shot up (at least compared to what I used to spend) also.

Sort of got out of buying new hardware a few years ago. Have the itch but won't scratch it with these prices, lol.
