for purely storage id have to lean toward a lower priced sata.. 10 seconds faster and how many gb smaller of a drive? of course i havnt priced sata drives lately so id have to get back to you on my ultimate choice. but i can say from what i see the ex920 for 135/1tb on ebay was the best bang for buck for me.. but im using it for a boot drive so it means more to me than a purely storage drive.. (why not switch to boot drive anyway)
Right now the 860 Evo is the boot drive. My plan was to clone the 860 to the 970 nvme and use that as my boot drive and possibly one or two games that require faster loading. I'd then wipe the 860 Evo and use that for storage. I should have been clearer in the previous post. It seems like no matter how many 1tb drives I put in I keep finding ways to fill them up.

I also think I only have room maybe barely for one more sata ssd 2.5 drive. So yes like it was mentioned before I would enjoy not having to disconnect a few things to feed through another wire.

no idea your budget.. i tried to justify a 970 pro 1tb but i couldnt as it was 250+$.
2tb is not enough for your games? how about some 10tb spinners for the lesser games? some attached storage with 10gb/s usbc?

The 970 Evo nvme is around $249 according to Amazon. I figured this was a cheaper price than what they were before but maybe I can wait some more. The newer 970 pro nvme for 1TB is $349.

i shop on ebay, its still new just not sold in retail store. yes i imagine waiting will yeild better prices but the 920ex is just as fast as 970 evo for about half.. maybe the evo plus 970 is 250?

Yes the hp 920ex is like $189 vs the Evo 970 plus which is like $270. That's quite a decent difference in price which means you are just paying for the Samsung brand in that case if it's just as fast. Hmm gave me more options to consider. Don't need it right now just tinkering with options. I've wanted to clean install it's just a pain to back up and get back up and running. If I did I would definitely do it for the nvme.

I can get the 970 Evo plus on Amazon for $220 one day delivery with prime or the 920ex for $155 with some points I still have. I haven't decided it if I want to do it and deal with backing up, formatting, and restoring.

SU630 is QLC NAND, isn't it? It should hopefully be cheaper than anything else. I wonder if Intel has a QLC SATA 2.5" drive planned, like their 545s 3D TLC Gen2 drive?

Yes it is 3D QLC.

If the 3D TLC SU650 is $52 then SU630 potentially could be in the low $40 range (It does have the same MAS0902 controller as the SU650). But since it is a new SSD (and yields of 3D QLC are reportedly low) I'm thinking it will follow a pricing pattern that is similar to what we saw when planar TLC drives first came out.

I wonder if Intel has a QLC SATA 2.5" drive planned, like their 545s 3D TLC Gen2 drive?

Intel has reportedly cut off further development of consumer SATA drives

480gb for $53 shipped and taxes for me.

Coupon code " EMCXTVVU3 "

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820173152&ignorebbr=1

A little bit of rough reviews for that model. Depending on use, it might be better to spend the extra $10 - $15 for a better performing model. It was tested against DRAMless drives in this review:

https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/dramless-ssd-roundup,4833-8.html
The SanDisk SSD Plus 480GB was the only product in this roundup to include a DRAM cache. The drive is very similar to the X400, but the firmware is different. We recommend that you spend a little more and get the X400.

I know this thread is for good, cheap deals, so I understand price is paramount to many looking here, just be sure to know exactly what you are getting.

Samsung 1TB 860 QVO (QLC - quad-level cell V-NAND) $117 @ Newegg

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod....com/samsung/18-3803/1920x120.jpg&icid=486688

It's about time that we've had a "price correction" on these QVO / QLC drives. They should be cheaper to produce than the 860 EVO drives, and they have less endurance (in theory), but for some strange reason (they were new, and had not-so-great yields on QLC V-NAND) they were MORE expensive than the 860 EVO drives, when they should have been cheaper.

Now they're at least reasonably-priced.

Intel 660p 1tb NVMe have been selling around $110 and 2TB around $220. They're QLC though...

I just picked up two 240GB Kingston A400 drives for $30 each from Amazon. Couldn't say no. Now I have to figure out the best way to set these things up in RAID.

in what world would that be better than a 1tb evo for 50-60? im so excited about SSD prices i see drives coming out that are faster than the 970pro at 144$ per tb. ( i want to buy one so much but i KNOW it will be faster and cheaper soon enough so ill make do with all the nvme / ssd drives i have (maybe 5nvme+15sata now), I see reviews of the 240gb a400 getting 160mbps so even doubled it wouldnt be to great.
