LEVEN SSD 1.92TB 3D NAND TLC SATA III Internal Solid State Drive - 6 Gb/s, 2.5 inch /7mm (0.28") - up to 560MB/s - Compatible with Laptop & PC Desktop

$130 + tax with free Prime shipping (and free ground non-Prime shpping?)

560MB/s Read, 500MB/s Write, cache unknown, 3 year warranty, TBW unknown. I'm not going to spend my money on one, but $130 + tax for an almost 2TB SSD isn't bad.

I'm thinking, some of these for NAS duty might make a fun experiment.

I've thought about doing something like that. I have a spare Dell PERC H710P hardware RAID card and I've been thinking about picking up some SSDs to see how a hardware RAID-6 with solid state drives would perform.

MSI SPATIUM Series M.2 2280 1TB PCI-Express 4.0 x4, NVMe 1.3 3D NAND Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) M470 $99.99

A 1TB NVMe for $99.99 isn't that great a deal... unless it's Gen4 like this one!

No DRAM, TLC and 480TBW. Would something like this be good for game storage? Would it have a real world advantage over a normal ssd or sata version nvme?
It doesn't really matter much when used as a program/game drive since it won't have a lot of writes when compared to using it as the OS drive.

That said, things might change once Microsoft gets around to enabling the DirectStorage aspect on Windows 11 (and then Windows 10).
It's supposed to speed things up when it comes to fast SSDs, so I would imagine the faster rated drives should show a benefit over cheaper DRAMless / QLC budget drives.

The current gen Xbox and Playstation consoles both have their own version of it, and Sony requires the NVMe drive to be PCIe 4.0 with 5000 mb/s read/write+ recommended. But until Microsoft releases it, the real world performance difference inside Windows is just an educated guess.

Thank you UsandThem. What if I'm wanting a game storage drive for the PCIe 3.0 system in my sig? I don't want to overpay for a faster drive that my system can't fully utilize. I will keep this rig until all this new hardware and OS tech gets sorted out and prices normalize.

Snagged the SATA 870 EVO "refurb" from Best Buy - 1TB for $70.

Dead now.

Just when I said that I didn't need it... I went a head and bought it. The 1TB SATA HD is critical for some applications and for use with a Raspberry Pi that can't handle the power draw of an NVME drive. That's the one thing I hope the next Rpi has - an onboard NVME slot. Even if they use a little one like the Steam handheld - which would also push that small form factor into the mainstream in a big way.

My warchest now holds:

Sandisk Ultra 1TB NVME (NIB, $68 @ BB with coupon)
WD Black SN750 1 TB NVME ($60, CL)
WD Black SN850 1 TB NVME ($120, FS/FT)
WD Black SN850 500GB NVME ($60, FS/FT)
Samsung 500GB 860 EVO ($40, CL)
Toshiba 256 GB NVME (Pulled from my Think Pad)
TeamGrou 512GB CX2 Sata ($43, Newegg)

WTH am I even doing in this thread?!? I am not sure if I feel good or bad that is "only" ~$500 in drives without purpose.

I can totally relate. I'm even worst. I've at least 12 or 13 SSDs lying around, some of them pretty old (Intel 530 160GB/ Corsair F60 60GB) and some of them brand new (Samsung 980 500GB / Crucial P5 2TB / WD Blue 1TB / Samsung 860 Pro 512GB / Hynix P31 500GB and a few others). I can't seem to resist good SSDs on sale.

Patriot Burst Elite 2.5" 1.92TB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) PBE192TS25SSDR $134.99

Glad to see more well-known brands around this price range, rather than just the Chinese(?)-based "Leven" brand.

Maybe I'll pick a couple up, would be neat to have some over-1TB SSDs finally. (OK, I have a couple of 2TB NVMe drives BNIB, but I was saving those for higher-end gaming builds, or my future gaming build, whichever comes first.)

I know that Kingston uses the Phison E13T and the Silicon Motion SM2263XT in their NV1 line.

I've been told that the 2 TB version uses E13T but do they also use the SM2263XT too in that line? I don't really care if it is QLC.

If you had a choice between E13T and SM2263XT, which would you choose? You can tell which is which by looking at the SSD through the clear plastic packaging.

I want to use it in an external USB enclosure and my understanding is both of these have relatively low max power consumption specs, which would be good for USB-A.

My alternative would be the 2 TB Western Digital SN550 which also has relatively low max power consumption, and it is faster than those two above for extended writes, but the SN550 has high idle power which wouldn't be good if I ever decide to put in a laptop.
