A review on Newegg for the 120GB version claims that "Secure Erase" is non-functional / unsupported in the current firmware. YMMV on that, I guess.

Only 25K IOPS (4K QD32 read in CDM is just under 100MB/sec). Slightly slow. Probably because it's DRAM-less.

Hmmm... In my "money is no object" PC Build, I think 2x2TB SSDs in RAID-0 array would make for a nice system drive.

Still, I think 1TB-class SSDs should hit $100 by black friday. At that cost, you could get a faster drive array by going 4x1TB with the newer intel-based motherboards (the chipsets were designed with this configuration in mind)

Still, very cool to see these get near consumer-level pricing.

That would be sweet indeed. However, I have my doubts. 240GB TLC would also have to be around $30.
Edit: It might be possible, if we see a strong uptake of 3D TLC NAND by then.

They are refurbs, used server drives, with probably a good portion of their lifespan used up.

I've been RAIDing my SSDs since my first set up with OCZ 60GB drives way back. The speed is nice, both read and write. Drive speed is always a bottleneck.. why would you settle for half or quarter the speed you can get?

The latest chipsets can handle 4-way RAID-0 arrays, basically quadrupling the effective speeds, meaning close to 2GB/s R/W throughput. The only way to go faster is with a high-end dedicated card.

Because... it's largely pointless? And if you lose TRIM support, your RAID-0 array may end up performing worse than a single drive. (Happened to me in Win7 64-bit on ICH9R.)

But does your workload benefit from sequentials that high?

M550 is one of the drives with power back-up caps, to protect "data at rest" from corruption, should the power fail.

I'm a big fan of the M500 drives, and the M550 is the next evolution of them. Should be slightly faster. Marvell controller, Crucial / Micron firmware, MLC NAND.

$99 for 480GB Muskin Triactor....I have one and it is as fast as EVO 850 for 50% (or more) less. I have found Muskin to be an easy company to deal with if you ever need too. Never had a problem with their drives but on memory they honor their warranty without question. Please excuse if Virtual L has already found this! He seems to have direct brain access to these deals. Advantage to being Virtual, I think.

For awhile they also partnered with shady businesses that would make you offers at checkout time that led to credit card charges later, but hopefully that is long past.

They also used to go into peoples' homes and murder their puppies and kittens, but I might just be making that one up.

Wow, nice. It's been as low as $205 shipped before.

Maybe this is a pre-emptive price strike against the MX300 3D TLC 1TB drive, which could theoretically come in cheaper because of the 3D TLC.
