I know it's more money now... but given the supposed mfg advantage of using 3D TLC NAND, it should, in theory, be able to be produced cheaper... if they really wanted to.

Then again, Crucial SSDs seem to have a somewhat un-natural premium attached to them. The BX200 has been trending UPWARDS to $69.99, when list for it used to be $64.99, I thought. I bought mine for under $60 on Newegg's ebay site. I haven't installed it in anything yet, because the reviews were so bad. I'm honestly a bit surprised that they're still selling this drive.

I've noticed that they've been going up in price as well. That's why for me, the best deal right now is the Crucial MX300 275GB SSD.

Faster than the BX200 and you also get 35GB of additional space for $5 more. No brainer

I have an x400 M.2 1TB and it is fine. Just as fast as Evo 850 1TB.

Intel 320 Series 2.5" 160GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SSDSA2BW160G3H (Recertified) $34.99

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820167391

Is this a decent refurb deal considering it's Intel and MLC?

Edit: It's only Sata II so it may not be a good deal.

Yeah, it's a decent deal. I bought two of them from Newegg's ebay store when the price dropped to $31.99 ea. shipped.

Put one in my Core2Quad rig, which has an ICH9R southbridge, which is only SATAII anyways.

It had around 35 or so TB worth of writes to it (in five years of uptime), but CrystalDiskInfo was still showing 100% health. Those older 25nm MLC drives could take a LOT of writes. Given my workload, I'm not worried. Probably good for 300TB+.

Thanks for the info Larry. Good to know they have been cheaper. I may wait then.

I'm trying to think of what I would use it for. My sister has an old Vista laptop but it's a single core so I'm not sure it's worth upgrading. She's been itching for a new laptop anyways.

I bought two of them (the 160GB Intel 320 series), for possibly my two Core2Quad rigs, or possibly a relative's laptop (that has SATAII HDD ports). I ended up using one of my new Team L7 EVO 240GB TLC SSDs in their laptop. With a fresh install of Win7 64-bit, and the SSD, it now is MUCH more pleasant to use.

It's a CQ50-139WM, a 2.0Ghz C2D single-core Celeron, with 2GB DDR2 RAM. Not too peppy specs. I probably should upgrade it to Windows 10, supposedly it runs even better than Win7 on older hardware, but I don't know if it has drivers and CPU support. Compaq/HP were nice enough to included updated Win7 drivers on their web site. (It came with Vista.)

Edit: You may want to wait, but if you need one, and you can put up with the SATAII speeds (or it's for a SATAII system), then I would probably jump on a drive or two. They might get a few dollars cheaper, but it seems as though SSD prices are trending slightly upwards, especially for MLC drives, which seem to be getting quite rare.

Another plug for the PNY CS1100 240GB at BestBuy on ebay, for $59.99, and the CS2211 for $69.99. (One of the 2.5" MLC SATA6G SSDs with the highest IOPS. Quad-core controller and MLC.)

I'm re-building out my work lab and need a recommendation. I generally have gone with Intel, but the cost would get out of control. Are there good SSD's 500ish GB around $150 or less that can take around 12GB of data written each day for a couple years?

12GB a day? That's 1.2TB in 100 days, or approx 4TB/yr. That's nothing for an MLC drive.

If you are price-sensitive, get a PNY CS1100/1111 480GB on sale for $99.99 (or non-sale price of $119.99 from BestBuy on ebay), or if not price-sensitive, get a Samsung 850 Pro/EVO 500GB for around $150.

I haven't been too impressed with the CS1100/1111 benchmarks so I'd go with the middle of the road CS2211 at $130

I went with two cs2211 drives for $69 each. I'll put 3 VMs on each drive and just buy a cheap 60gb driver for my hyper v core box

I have 3 PNY SSD's spread across the CS2200 and CS2100 series. They are all great drives (all MLC based of course), and I did have an issue once and PNY support was very helpful.

MLC writes are measured in the thousands. You're only doing 8 per year.

The only concern I'd have for you is if you plan on keeping a large portion of the drive static with archived data, which would force everything else to be reused over and over.

Not really archived data, but static images of Windows and Linux operating systems. There won't be like an archive hub for movies or videos or anything like. Is that what you're referencing?

HyperX 3K 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone

#291832123505

Newegg on ebay

$36.99

This is the drive that the V300 *used* to be. Supposedly, 3K P/E cycle NAND, SandForce 2nd-gen controller.

Used to be priced really high. Other ebay listings are around $80 ea for these. I think that they've been discontinued. Someone must have found these in the warehouse somewhere, and they decided to blow them out.

These may not be the greatest deal, as you can still get PNY CS1100 240GB (BX100 clone) drives from BestBuy on ebay for $60.

Crucial MX200 2.5" 500GB SATA 6Gbps (SATA III) Micron 16nm MLC NAND Internal Sol

# 301516304438

$129.99 FS

Newegg, on ebay

500GB MLC (Crucial!), this is a higher-end drive. This is about the lowest price I've seen it at thus far.
