This is a good sign, first the Adata SU800 128GB drives were $39.99 on sale, and now these SK Hynix, either 3D NAND is getting cheaper, or there's some sales / lower prices going on. Snag em while you can, the 120GB Kingston V300 drives are over $50 now.

Also, I've learned, that these SSDs have three 48GB IMFT 32-layer 3D TLC dies in them, so they actually have 144GiB of flash memory! But they are using a four-channel controller, with only three channels apparently populated. So, you gain some performance, but you lose it again.

I wish that these drives would be sold as 135GB or 140GB, that they would allow user access to the extra storage capacity, rather than just use it all for spare area.

They use the same NAND dies as the Crucial MX300 drives, which come in "odd" sizes, like 275GB, 525GB, 750GB, and 1TB.

I've been seeing more M.2 SATA drives on sale lately. Makes sense, if you're going to go for M.2, might as well go for the performance option of M.2 PCI-E SSDs. M.2 SATA is just another form-factor for 2.5" SATA drives, minus the casing, on a smaller PCB, for the most part. So M.2 SATA is kind of the red-headed stepchild of M.2, M.2 PCI-E is the newer little darling.

This is an Adata 256GB 3D MLC NAND 2.5" SSD. Has been $119.99 for the longest time. It's good to see that 3D MLC is losing the "premium" over planar NAND MLC drives. (Mushkin, etc.)

sigh... SSDs should be half these prices at this point, even less, but Enterprise is gobbling up all the supply. We should be at 256GB "Base" drives at "Base" pricing ($30~$40) moving toward 512GB drives as the base capacities within another year or two - but all of that is screwed up by the insane demand and refusal of manufacturers to increase capacity.

Of course, the scarcity is being encouraged by the manufacturers to keep the prices propped up. They've learned that strategy worked well enough for platter drives over the last 7 or 8 years. Why do all the work to provide customers with better, cheaper tech when the profit margins are through the roof by doing nothing?

At any rate, keep up the good work, guys (and VirtualLarry in particular), I reference this thread often when I need to purchase SSDs.

These venerable drives used to be considered "budget". But now that they're of an "old" design (2nd-gen SandForce, with MLC NAND), they've become positively pricey. Btw, "Mushkin ECO2" uses the same controller chip, and also MLC NAND (but likely not necessarily the same NAND supplier).

They were hovering at $90.99 on Newegg's ebay site. $79.99 brings their price back down to earth. I've been using a 120GB V300 for some years now in my HTPC, in non-demanding applications. Still holds up fine.

The 2nd-Gen SandForce controllers utilize a compression feature / "trick", which causes them to not benchmark well, when using incompressible data, but they perform well for real-world Windows OS / programs installs.
