First, I really love my Chinese neighbors. They keep to themselves, are quiet, and I hardly notice that they are there. They are also very diligent about sweeping up leaves and trash on our block.
As my neighbors move away, the only people replacing them have been Chinese. They're the primarily reason why the price of houses around us has been propped up. Now only five houses on my block are non-Chinese. I believe they are attracted to the large Chinese community in the area and the good school district, which in turn becomes more competitive/higher ranked due to the influx of Chinese. There's so many Chinese students in the schools here that at one point my daughter thought she was Chinese too!
Anyways, I learned that one of the houses on my block is being used for anchor babies. Pregnant Chinese women will rent rooms there until they give birth. They apparently have a whole menu of services available to them (e.g. $50 for a trip to Costco, $200 for hospital trip, etc.).
I recently talked to someone I do regular business with 30 miles away and he said he had a home on his block that does this as well. Apparently there's 40,000 birth tourists coming into the country every year. Does anyone else know of homes like this?
