He's also losing because his core constituency of youth voters aren't turning out for him. They aren't voting for Joe either. They're just not voting in this primary season, for whatever reason. That fact alone should give everyone pause about how viable a candidate Sanders ever was.

Part of it may be ease of registration. Home ownership tends to prompt people to register, where the youth vote is more transient and predominantly renters or living at home with parents.
The other part of it is that they just don’t show up to vote.

Inequality was dropping for a long time in the US, and as such 'some people' (non-whites) were getting close to being on the same tier as everyone else, which made the 'everyone else' (racist whites) feel like their position in life was lowering.
