An X800? CLASSIC TOTAL CLASSIC

I love how my box copy of Black and White 2 recommends the X800 for the game with it's "unprecedented 16 pixel shader pipelines" :awe:

What would be more ridiculous is if somehow you could connect all of those to the same computer, make 'em work together and document it. Why? Because it would be incredibly, ironically ridiculous!

How is it ironic?

How is it ironic?

The sheer ludicrous ridiculousness of going through the trouble to set a parallel rendering with a bunch of very different older video cards when a couple GTX 680s could probably take all of them on and still have rendering capability to spare. It's fun, just entirely unpractical.

I often get inklings to set up some kind of semi-retro gaming computer with a single core processor, 1 GB DDR, some old 128 MB or 256 MB video card along with Windows XP and a 4:3 monitor. Aw yeah...... I need to get XP back on my PC here. While it sucks compared to Win7 in responsiveness and making use of multi-core CPUs, it's a nostalgia trip, plus Far Cry doesn't experience any rendering and loading issues! I truly do miss 4:3 monitors, since some games like Far Cry were of course built for them. The vertical aspect of the view in FPSs is grossly underutilized in games thanks to widescreen adoption. I've tried Far Cry with the monitor turned 90° and rendering in 768 x 1024 mode, and it was quite interesting.....

Total crapshoot. My local CL has sellers trying to sell old 8800 cards for $100.

I've got a lot of extra cards - thinking of displaying them in an acrylic case. I have:

Team Green:
MSI 5900XT
6800GT
7900GS
7950gx2
8800 GTS ACS3

Team Red:
ATI 9800Pro
ATI 800XT
ATI 1900XT

Nice collection! Craiglist here in Raleigh is pretty active with computer parts. People still ask a lot for older stuff but you gotta beat em up a little bit. I used to trade a lot with people on craiglist and make money buy selling it for more on Ebay. Too much work though and not enough coin.I did buy GTX 295 for $100 and sold it for $350 on ebay about a year ago though.

Green, I have a LOT more cards than that, but it comes down to why display a certain card if it wasn't at least a gamer card ? I have some 3Dfx stuff I forgot to include - shame on me for that oversight - a Canopus Pure3D Voodoo1 (6mb), Creative Voodoo 2 (with SLI bridge) and a Voodoo 3 3000 AGP.

Back in the Nvidia GF 4 4200 days, there were no exotic coolers like we have today. It was simply slap a sticker on it for your brand (anyone remember Elsa, Hercules, or Guillemot ??) and call it a day. I always liked buying cards with oddball cooling setups, so its fun to see them and remember the games and hours spent gaming on each card.

I remember Elsa! I also remember getting a geforce 3 ti 200 for cheap when they were liquidating their San Jose office in 2001.

Only card i got back from years ago is a evga 8800 gts 512mb...got it very shortly after release, think i paid $359 for it,which i thought was a deal as i couldn't afford a 8800gtx.

God i loved that card,i still have it wrapped up in a anti static bag hoping to put it back into service again soon.

The Akimbo card attracts me most of that list for some reason. Again, I dig the oddball cards the most.
I'm curious if the 9800 Akimbo suffered from the same failing solder points that plagued the 8x00 series cards and made the oven bake method such a common fix*.

*- in most cases, I see the over trick lasts at most 6 months until the problem returns.

Not sure. This one is fully operational with no issues. I have had a lot of issues with the Geforce 7 Series falling -about 4 died on me - 3 worked for a while with the easy bake oven trick.

I miss my old 9800pro, managed to get it playing crysis once...

9800 Pro was a sweet card -- I had a 9500 Pro a long time ago. I had two roomates at the time and one had a Radeon 8500 ( I sold to him) and the other a Geforce Ti4200. I had the fastest for awhile.
