Where did you go? What did you major in? When did you graduate? What did you like about it? What did you hate about it? What would you do differently? What would you look for in a college if picking an undergrad school knowing what you know today?

1) University of Chicago
2) Biological Chemistry & Chemistry
3) 2010
4) Academic rigor and general focus on learning
5) Hyde Park, Chicago is a mediocre area for stuff to do
6) Get out of Hyde Park more often
7) Focus on academics, but have a good social environment as well. Pretty much what I was looking for at the time.

The girls are very different from each other.

1. Biggest one in my country.

2. Civil Engineering undergrad + master's (same school)

3. 2008 for undergrad, a few months from now (1 exam left!!!) for master's.

4. University is huge, close to home, prestigious (in my country) and name recognition, reputation for being hard but good.

5. It was engineering so mostly male, lots of nerd-types, and a few pretentious assholes - it's engineering. Females were average to sub-par, all the hot ones took humanities and sciences.

6. Probably take a year off and figure out exactly what I wanted to do. I just did it because my friend was doing mechanical engineering.

Honestly, I'd skip engineering and do something like archaeology and sociology. I had so much more "fun" taking humanities courses than any engineering courses, and I also felt like I learned so much more. And I've been exploring an undergrad BA: you get to choose your own program! I was spoonfed my program. Finding a job... good luck.

7. Somewhat reasonably priced, name, reputation, proximity to home, not too hard but not Devry.

  • University of Florida
  • Physics
  • 2007
  • Large student body; lots of activities going on
  • Location; Florida weather sucks, especially in places far from the coast
  • I would have done better in my classes and went for computer engineering or computer science
  • 3 things (see below)

  1. Above average national ranking
  2. A large student body (I attended FAU for grad school, which had a small campus and half the students; it was terrible)
  3. Close enough to home such that you can come back for a weekend but far enough so that you have to stay near campus in a dorm or an apartment.

Where did you go?

State school

What did you major in?

Psychology (got my master's in Marriage and Family Therapy)

When did you graduate?
2008

What did you like about it?
Scholarships I was awarded funded my education, good classes and social atmosphere

What did you hate about it?
I didn't really hate anything about it.

What would you do differently?
I can't say I would do anything differently.

What would you look for in a college if picking an undergrad school knowing what you know today? Pick a school that offers a good program and is affordable. Unless a program is significantly better and will increase your odds of getting a job, etc. it is not worth spending extra money on. Also pick a college that has some clubs that you are interested in or some type of social thing you can connect with because you live there so you want to have some sort of life outside of classes and homework.

  • Where did you go? Virginia Tech
  • What did you major in? Building Construction, i.e. Construction Management
  • When did you graduate? 2010
  • What did you like about it? Beautiful campus, students are very passionate about the school, Corps of Cadets, tons of things to do, top rated CM program
  • What did you hate about it? Entry level classes can be boring as shit, Corps of Cadets (had no friends for first two years outside my buds), foreign teachers who can't speak English
  • What would you do differently? Not much. Probably have gone straight into BC rather than Gen. Engineering. Would have done better my freshman year and would have stayed in ROTC rather than disenrolling to figure my life out. I don't regret the Corps of Cadets, I have some great friends and experiences because of it.
  • What would you look for in a college if picking an undergrad school knowing what you know today? I would have looked for a school with an above average rowing program. I could have gone somewhere and rowed for a full four years on a varsity team rather than the club at VT.

Pretty fun.. a lot of people good at different things
Why would you hate anything? Hating will generally make you unhappier and it's not like you're ever going to go through Holocaust situations that warrant such strong negative feelings.
Probably focus more on friends rather than workish things
Donno, good school in general I guess. The rest is available everywhere

  • Where did you go?
I went to two community colleges first. One in Vancouver, WA. It sucked. One in Seattle. It sucked. Transferred into the University of Washington in Seattle.

  • What did you major in?
Computer Science and Mathematics.

  • When did you graduate?
2014.

  • What did you like about it?
Nothing really.

  • What did you hate about it?
Everything. Weather is terrible. Undergraduate professors generally suck in almost all freshmen/sophomore level classes (but what's new?). There's many who are terrible in the 3XX level of math as well.

Very unfriendly city (Read: Seattle Freeze). There isn't much to do. College has over 700 clubs, but it's hard to find any that even I am interested in. (I've looked into them too) The only good ones, I imagine, are the ones meant for people of a certain descent/race. That's another thing: 30%+ Asian(A real stat). A good amount of those people speak English only when they must. It's extremely cliquey because of that. People who are asian stick with other asians. It is less common for people who grew up in the USA, but it still happens. In general: Browns don't like whites. (The words of a girl I did a rideshare with)

The area around campus is a dump. Most of Seattle, excluding maybe downtown/business district, is pretty ugly most of the year.

  • What would you do differently?
UC school or Ivy League. Go immediately to university.

  • What would you look for in a college if picking an undergrad school knowing what you know today?
Better weather. Friendly people. Better atmosphere. Less foreign students, or if full of foreign students, then friendly foreign students. If you're going to be in the city/university for 4+ years, then you should fucking like the place. You're going to be living there for a significant amount of your life and shouldn't feel like you wasted your time there. (Except for the degree(s) you'll be getting) Realllllly fucking know the place before you move there. Have a lot of information from people who moved to there and didn't grow up there. Get information from people WHO DON'T LIKE IT. That's really the best advice. Generally you find out all the things you won't like from the people who don't like the place. The people who like the place don't usually have anything too critical to say.

  • What would you do differently? Better grade/GPA .
  • What would you look for in a college if picking an undergrad school knowing what you know today? Small size class and smart/caring faculty.

Rutgers
Information Technology/History - 2008
Loved the partying
Hated the Liberal professors -- history program is still pretty awesome though

The computer science program was impossible (had a 1.5 gpa) so I switched to the IT program in the communications school. 3.8 GPA in that without ever going to class because the program is a joke. Still looks good on the resume though... both bosses at my internship and current job didn't even realize it was different than computer science.

I specifically wanted a school that would 'leave you alone'... I didn't want small classes where I'm being guided constantly. Rutgers was... perfect for that.

Another Lowell Tech grad here
Business
197x
Very affordable and commutable-was also able to compete at a Divsion 1 level (wrestling)
Very few women (Rivier College in Nashua was further away than Lowell State but had better looking women )
I wish I had taken Engineering instead of Business
Location (close to home-but not too close) and Academic reputation
