you know, I actually think I got a lot more enjoyment out of the simple games on my commodore 64 then I do out of the fancy 3D games that I have now....

Decathlon - what a game. The keyboard/Joystick killer.
Quickshot II - ahh - I think I worked my way through at least one of those - then I went on to the QUICKSHOT II TURBO - that's the one with the auto-fire option.

Unfortunately, my original C64 died (after 6 years of loyal service), and my C64 II was "given away" in my absence to someone else.

Either way - I stumbled on a collection of C64 games on CD (10,000 odd), for about £ 10 - I couldn't resist buying it.

Long live the emulator.

C64 - an era in its own right .

Agreed....The C64 kicked ass, try and find a person under 16 who has even heard of it.

I had a Commodore Plus/4 too!, The emulator I downloaded was not great, odd sound glitches. I WANNA PLAY FLIMBO'S QUEST!

I'm 16, and I have one..... The only game I played was some pirate thing but I forgot what it was called. I spent the most time drawing pictures with the special characters on the keyboard

The old C64 was a great 'puter. Used one for about 5 years in the 80s. Lot's of fond gaming memories. Wrote programs on it too. There were some COBOL, PACSCAL and FORTH emulators for it back then. Helped me earn my degree.

Also had a Plus/4 and a C128. The C128 could be switched to CP/M mode too.

I have to agree. How the heck could they get so much more game play out of titles back then?

Thank goodness for emulators

I loved my C64.
I loved my C128.

Man, I wasted so much of my college years playing Gunship, and having drunken 4-way games of the Summer/Winter Games by Epyx.

Great games, great computer.

And - of course - THE TURRICAN SERIES - what a game.

The absolute smasher by Rainbow Arts (what happened to them anyway), just like Katakis & so on - on Amiga, Atari & C64. Ahh ... fond memories.

Games had worse graphics in those days, but were just more addictive. Anyone here remember BUBBLE BOBBLE & RAINBOW ISLANDS? Now THAT is an addictive game

I hate to pop your bubble but the C64 was a POS along side of my AppleII+.

Which, in turn, was outclassed (but not outmarketed) by the Atari 800 class of machines.

Good to know that these Intel/AMD geek-type wars have been raging for decades.

Damn, that good old C64. I loved that. Played games on it for hours on end, and enjoyed them much more than todays games. Surprising what you can do with a 8 bit CPU and a few K of memory.

Anyone here get addicted to Space Invaders on the Vic20? I got so good at that the invaders would start off so low they were taking off the top of my little house with their leggs when they started moving. Played that till the sun rose

I didn't use 5.25 disks, I had the tape drive

The sqweaky noises of the tape, waiting half an hour watching coloured bars flashing on screen whilst slowly savouring the game blurb and finally ready to play! Nostalgia

Winter games was kickass, pity I had to wait for it to load after every event:frown:

Games don't have as much substance as they did then, great, fun characters and storyline plus unbeatable gameplay..

What about Ikari Warriors? Commando? Dam Busters? Sentry? Man, those were some good times. I actually read an article in Boot (now called Maximum PC) when the Nintendo 64 came out comparing them. They gave the vote to the C64 on the basis of price and number of games. Ha! C64 rules all.

The C64 is still in use today at my parents house. My father (60+ years old) still plays M.U.L.E. and Computer Quarterback (by Dan Bunten, before his "gender reassignment&quot.

Growing up in a house where your father is the computer nut leads to Baaaad things man. I played Gunship on the C64 for months trying to earn the CMH. I have a photo at my parents house with me in an arm sling and head bandage next to the monitor showing the screenshot of the CMH being presented to me. Remember the days of having to take a still photo of screenshots to get cool prizes? Remember that you would use a whole roll of film to be sure that you got at least one photo that worked?

I totally agree that the gamig on the 64 seemed more..........consuming. I cannot explain why.
