A friend of mine was looking at a new C7 with his wife then they first came out and the dealer wouldn't even let them test drive one without making a commitment to buy it after the test drive. They drove up in a new BMW 8-series convertible, a car that costs over $100k and the dealer was yanking them around with ridiculous requirements just to get a test drive. They ended up walking away.

The C7 came out in '13 and the 8-series came out in late '18. So yeah, I'm confused.........

Perhaps they were looking to test drive a ZR1?

First, this is Chevy we are talking about. The notion that I should commit to buy before getting a chance to test drive is absurd, especially if I have excellent credit, no need for GM financing, etc.

As always, I will buy something elsewhere than afford that kind of dealership to bully and intimidate me into a test drive. BTW, I don't talk about trade-in's or financing when shopping for a new vehicle. That is not my intent. I am not looking to find what I can get into for $xxx/month. Maybe Chevy and the like just have too many bubba-rednecks coming in and dreaming by means of asking to see and test drive.

Well it is a Corvette. Which means if you aren't at least 60 years old then they assume you aren't an actual customer.

I think it's around the point in a lot of people's lives where they can afford it. I know the median age of Corvette buyers is right around 60. Driving by them every day on the express way to work/home makes me feel like it's reasonable accurate if not leaning towards a higher number.

That doesn't really look like convertible but more targa top which most Corvettes always had. But I do like it's automated.

Spyder or Spider is a generic term for a convertible. Targa generally means it has the roll bar across the back. But since it's a trademarked name we don't know if more manufacturers would use it when their vehicles have the half supports like this or a McLaren 570s.

I was directly referring to Porsche. They make both the Spyder and Targa. Here is a link to what I could afford.

The proverb imitation is the sincerest form of flattery means that one imitates someone else because one admires that person or values what that person is doing.

I was implying that the new Corvette convertible appeared to be inspired by the Spyder or Targa both Porsche products.

It's like how people use "Mafia" incorrectly to describe all forms of organized crime families, the real term (in Italian) being la Cosa Nostra (Our Thing). There is no Russian "Mafia" or Japanese Mafia because that doesn't make sense. The Mafia is only the organized crime family that comes from Sicily. Others come from Naples (Cammora), Milan, Rome, etc...

...but using "Mafia" is flattery for all such families of scamps, I guess, because the Sicilians "did it right" the first time?

To me, a Targa roof always has that fixed crossbar down the middle

The closest Porsche analog would actually probably be a Speedster.

No clue why you'd be trying to claim Chevy is "inspired by" Porsche like Chevy hasn't been making Corvettes for nearly 70 years or similar products haven't been established. It'd make more sense to compare it to the industry as a whole, where other companies offer a much more similar offering. Look at Ferrari, McLaren, Lambhorghini, and most others. They all do convertible (Spider/Spyder) versions of their mid-engined sports cars like this. Heck I think Ferrari even does many of their front engined convertible like this now.

Targa I believe requires rear glass (that could possibly be separately removed but generally is fixed). Which, you people know the normal C8 is Targa top, right?

It looks absolutely nothing like Porsche's Targa by the way, as Porsche changes the entire roof structure and gives it a wrap around rear glass canopy. Well they did have the one where it was basically just a large sunroof that would slide back over/under the rear glass in I think the 90s, but they thankfully ditched that style.

AFAIK, Targa simply means that the vehicle has a complete roll bar, that's it. It doesn't imply that the back screen should be glass. I also agree that the Corvette doesn't really look like it's drawing inspiration from Porsche.

Most Porsche convertibles use an extended seat. The only recent one that uses the same style is the 918. Ferrari and McLaren both have multiple vehicles that have more similar design than Porsche does. Mclaren has the 600, 650, 570, 720, 12c all of which use that bumped up individual roll bar behind each seat.

Regardless of your opinion, it will be the pace car at Nascar events and the Indy 500. In Germany the Corvette is the only American car the Germans show up to see at the Nurburgring. You clearly do not understand the truth, justice and American way mantra. The Ford GT came about because Enzo Ferrari didn't want to sell Ferrari to Ford. The current Lambos sucked until the Italians put in German engineered dual clutch transmissions.

So now Chevy has a proper dual clutch and a mid engine Corvette. I have heard very few complaints from people regarding the new C8.

The Media embargo for C8 reviews is off - MotorTrend and C&D had enjoyable reads today -

Nice write up of the C8 vs. C7 on the track -

I know this sounds crazy, but there are some angles that just make it look off. I don't know if the headlights are too big or the perspective just makes it look that way. Can't put my finger on it. Other angles though, unf.

The only thing I'm so so about is the long headlight housings and that LED running light.
