In light of the poll for the VCG forum: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2466186

In the name of science, please feel free to vote in this poll, anonymously.

If you want to state your reasons why, go ahead, let's not troll or flame each other. Purely for interesting discussion points only.

Me, I vote #3, I got after the best CPU for my needs. Main gaming rig has always been Intel ever since Conroe. HPTC rig or family & friend rigs for casual gaming, I've gone with AMD APUs.

Intel, I have been using Intel CPUs always, and nothing looks to change that, unless - Zen is really amazing piece of arch.

With CPUs I feel like you get what you pay for. There are some strong and weak spots for each CPU.

Everyone is buying intel, so I guess I will buy amd as I find their CPUs quite usable in a PC, contrary to what most people want you to believe.

I suspect I have an Intel bias. Dunno for sure tho. Is it wrong to buy an i5-4460 over an FX-8350/70 in this day and age?

My first 386xs 40MHz was AMD. I had no idea about the performance differences at this point, or when I got a PII 350MHz a few years later.

I started to pick up on the performance differences when I got a 1.4GHz Thunderbird and then upgraded to an Athlon XP 2400.

Some years later I went with AMD again and got an Athlon64x2 5600. When I saw how much better and smoother games like Crysis ran on a Core 2 system with a single 9800GTX compared to my dual 9800GTX+'s, I knew I was going to have to get an Intel system next time around.

I was not disappointed. My overclocked i5-750 lasted me over 5 years before I switched to Skylake, and AMD has yet to bring anything to the table that could sway me back for gaming purposes, which even though I only game for relatively short periods of time compared to other uses, it's the one use that needs that consistent performance.

I don't really have a bias generally, and that's how I voted, but for the moment Intel chips are far better suited to my needs.

i always flip flopped. first was a intel 200mhz mmx then it was a thunderbird after that barton, athlon and phenom. now since 2011 2500k. i have no bias i always take best bang for buck. ill see what zen brings to the table and decide who i will "support" next.

Prefer Intel atm. Last AMD cpu I had was Athlon 64 X2, after that they haven't released anything worth to own.

I prefer Intel for the same reason I prefer Nvidia GPUs- I never know what parts will one day go in my hackintosh, and AMD plus OSX is a disaster.

With that said I buy a lot of parts/systems for HTPCs so if AMD had more compelling offerings before Intel I would be tempted (like if they would beat Intel to HDMI 2.0 on NUC devices).

I prefer Intel, but I do use AMD chips fairly often. Just built a 7850K system for a budget minded friend.

What else could it be?

Best cpu for the job wins

I have only used Intel CPUs for years now and I'm usually enthusiastic about their products.

I had a couple of Pentium 1 and Pentium 2 systems, an original Athlon, a Duron, Athlon 64, a Core 2 Duo, Phenom 2 x3 and now a Haswell 4670k. All of them were good work horses with zero issues, so I don't have a brand preference.

I have a slight preference for AMD, I starting dabbling in PC gaming in the 486 days... 66MHz DX2 eventually upgraded to a 133MHz K5, my first real build was a 700MHz Duron... overclocked of course. (7x115MHz... achieved by changing jumpers on my motherboard!) But, I own and will happily buy more Intel hardware as well, not like both companies haven't gotten plenty of my money over the years.

Used to be an AMD fan when they made the fastest and most efficient cpu. Now, they dont get a second thought, intel all the way for the same reason.

As regards the poll, somehow in general, those who have the most bias dont seem to realize it, so I think both this and the VC and G poll are pretty meaningless.

No bias in CPUs for me. I buy the best perf/€ product, so almost always used products. GPUs are a whole different story. I'm biased towards AMD there, due to their better perf/€. (plus nVidias schemy things)

I think different wording might help. Even though I almost always buy Intel today, that's because of their performance. in 2005, it was AMD for the same reason. I know choice 3 says that, but my first instinct was to click Intel.
Edit: Oh, and see sig. I still do have 6234 Opterons.

That's way more fun to read if I imagine you have a garage with 6,234 Opterons in racks than a couple 12 core Opterons from a few years ago.

I probably had more of an Intel bias when I was younger - in particular, I bought a Pentium 4 1.6A (with an RDRAM-based motherboard, no less!) when an Athlon XP would really have been better value, although that was in part due to my fear of destroying the latter via incorrectly mounting the HSF.

Nowadays I like to consider myself unbiased - and I did use a Turion-based notebook as my main computer for most of my time at university - but Intel's products have fit my need better than AMD's whenever I've been in a position to upgrade.

during the 90s until 2002 I was heavily Intel biased, after realizing the mistake of buying into RDRAM and how good AMD was, I perhaps became a little to enthusiastic of AMD until 2008-2009, and made the mistake of going and recommending AM2, nowadays I don't really care, it's totally up to performance and price, which unfortunately AMD seems to struggle to get it right since Phenom II.
I would have no problem buying both again,

Neutral.

My only potential bias would be my bad experience with non-intel chipset 10+ years ago.
