Buy the game now, and play it at a sub-par visual quality (ultimately not the way it was programmed to be enjoyed), and play multiplayer while people are still interested...

Or

Buy the game when it's in the bargain bin, and enjoy the game maxed out on new video hardware, but lose the multiplayer element, since interested has waned over time and good servers are hard to find.

I think Crytek shot themselves in the face with this one.

You certainly are vehement in your hatred off all things Crysis...

Go play some more SOFayback?

This is a bargain bin game...? LOL. Hmmm... I seem to disagree. As would countless others.

you guys do know what an opinion is, right? based on responses, it doesn't seem that way.

SoF: Payback should be a bargain bin game also.

I do know what an opinion is. I just stated I disagreed with yours.
Crytek will be getting my money this evening.

SP is very enjoyable and looks very good...I haven't been able to get into MP... Might be because I'm using a no-dvd crack (it's a legitimate copy, just can't stand discs in my drive.) I'm glad I got the game.

Or just don't buy it period because your growing tired of games with little originality.

I'm on the fence with this one, after watching the ending on Youtube, looks like it's just another FPS game with elements of many other popular games ala Half Life and Halo.

Not to spoil the game for anyone but when you play it you will see the similarities.

I think it get's high marks for graphics, destructible environments and some other points but that alone doesn't make a good game IMHO.

I'm waiting a while. I've got a crap load of games anyway to play first, so hopefully some new cards will come out in the next couple months.

Thats pretty much how I feel. Its fun but didnt really add anything new to the gaming world. And its expensive considering I dont have the hardware required to make it look awesome.

Nothing new and cant run it?
I will wait. At least until I have an 8800 or the next gen card.

I don't see any Conondrum ...

Look at my system, I've played through the whole game at Very High settings. The only single setting I've left at High was the Shadows. I play at 1280x960, no AA and no AF, and the game looks absolutely phenomenal. I didn't have to wait to experience the game at its maximum glory (or very near it). It plays at between 20 to 35 FPS depending on the levels and where I'm looking at, it's very payable.

I think some GTX owners out there and even GTS owners were SO used to play their games at 40+ or 60+ FPS at maximum settings that they kinda took for granted that ALL, that everything single games that would come in the future HAD TO play at that speed. I STILL don't understand why people complain about Crysis' performance and think they need to upgrade their systems to PLAY it. What is the definition of "playing" for the enthusiasts ? Is "playing" being able to get 100 FPS ? Or is it to enjoy a game ? Or is it to enjoy a game BECAUSE you get 100 FPS ? Please explain ... not that I do care about it though.

I know for one that I didn't have to upgrade after all, and I enjoyed every second of Crysis. I'm already playing my second game in the campaign right now and again I'm having a lot of fun and still am impressed by the visuals. Look at my system for crying out loud ...

1) My GPU is crappier (320mb really hurts)
2) I refuse to use my 22'' monitor at anything but 1680x1050

I found the demo enjoyable at 25-30fps, but I also got about 5 frames per second at the "iceboat" section. I'm pretty concerned my computer will just crap its pants during the ice levels.

I have the 640mb card that you have and it works great for me at Very High settings, and to disagree with Pontifex, I feel like it's one of the most amazing games I have ever played.

I love the interactivity and the immersion in the environment.

And shooting the crabs on the beach is fun too!

What resolution? I'm getting 23-25FPS on High @ 1680x1050, so there's no way you're playing at Very High unless you're running @ 1280x1024 or lower.

No conundrum for me. This game is playable and even shiny on modest machines. However, you definitely get rewarded if you have made the investment in top-end hardware. This is sort of the Corvette of video games. It isn't practical, you're not going to get 6 cup holders or brilliant advancements in the FPS genre, but it is flashy and visceral if you can afford to drive it like it wants to be driven. Its just aching and yearning for some 8800 ultra lovn'. That being said, it would also be "satisfied" with your dinky 7900 if thats what you're packing.

I have a lowly (by today's standards, anyway) X1900XTX, but to me it really depends on how the game performs (and looks) at lower settings. I haven't heard a lot about that, as it seems that everyone is trying to see how the game runs with the graphics turned all the way up. I can certainly play at 5fps or something if I have no other option, and I'll probably get used to it eventually (heck, I used to do that at one point), but I would much rather play at 100fps at mostly low settings than get 20-30fps at maximum settings.

The ice section does run considerably slower. Even with a 640MB GTS@650/1000, at 1600x1200, I had to turn off AA and set shadows to medium, as well as postprocessing to low (mainly because the motion blur gave me severe headaches). Even after that, we're talking 25-30 fps just walking around. The ice parts consistently drop into the low 20s, and below 20 in combat.

The way I see it there are two kinds of buyers. Those that buy a game when it first comes out and then there is the type that waits for it to hit the bargain bin. There's no wrong or right to it. The 'Buy it when it comes out' types enjoy getting something new when it first comes out and thats fine for them. The 'Bargain bin' types prefer not to pay full cost and dont mind waiting and thats fine for them. Both groups have their reasons for buying a game in a certain way.

Its just a preference style I guess. Although I have noticed that some in the two groups do clash as to which is better at times. I dont see one way being better or superior than another way. Do what you want and dont worry what others think.

Just my two coppers.

No, not really. 1024x768, no AA, medium everything, and it's still Chugalicious. Demo ran like crap too. I'll buy it later when I have hardware that can run it.

Core2Duo @ 2.8ghz
2gb ddr2-800 @ 800
7900GS @ 450/800

Oh, and Zenoth, 25-30fps isn't really smooth and playable. Maybe as an absolute minimum sustained fps, but if 25-30 is your average, it's dropping below 25, which is definitely not playable. I'm not asking for 100fps, but at least a minimum sustained 40 would be nice.

IMO as long as it stays above 15fps minimun, thats perfectly playable... don't forget that consoles are basically locked in at 30fps and look just fine. Minimum fps is often more important than avg fps

Every game ends up in a bargain bin eventually, starcraft is a bargain bin game nowadays, so is GTA: Vice city.

Im just gonna leave crysis for a year or so and do exactly what the OP is doing, no way do i wanna try it on my lappys 8600gt. From what the people with 8800's are saying i dont think my desktop 7900 GTO will fare much better.
