I worked for a small shipping company for a few years and we'd see the UPS guy zipping around us like he just did a barrel of crank in the morning. Then a couple hours after I got off work I'd see the guy still on the road. Insane. But I guess they're well compensated.

I completely understand they are under impossible time constraints, but running up with a "we missed you" note seems counter-productive since you'll just have to deliver it tomorrow.

I'm okay with them running up with my package, knocking on the door and then zipping back to the truck.

i have had stuff sent back with 3 atempes at delevery and never a note on the door. our stupid apt. complex manager will not allow them to drop off at the office without us leaving a note on our door for the ups guy to bring to the office with the package. Like the 3 people in the office all day have sooooo much to do with a full complex and nearly mandatory auto pay rent.

Guess who is wrong beyond belief? Though they are Teamsters and it's next to impossible to fire a UPS worker, dishonesty is a situation where the union will not stand up for the employee. The DIAD boards operate on the cellular network and have a GPS transponder in them. The trucks do as well. Management is well aware of where a driver has been for the day. And the fact that your driver is leaving it is a sign you don't live in the ghetto. It is called a driver release because the shipper did not request and pay for signature, and the driver is comfortable leaving it.

For anyone that thinks these guys are lazy a typical truck will go out with 150-250 stops per day, which includes business stops with upwards of fifty boxes at some stops stacked floor to ceiling. In major metropolitan areas residential deliveries are a very small portion of the drivers day. Most is businesses and pickups, pickups are usually done by 5ish. Residentials usually after that as they are the lowest priority.

Uh what???? I've seen this happen before exactly.

I was sitting outside on my front porch all day, recovering from surgery, waiting for some packages to be delivered, which included medication. I sat out side all day long to make sure I got it. Driver never came, but it got listed as attempted delivery. Just because you don't think that shit happens doesn't mean that it doesn't.

I never had an "attempted" delivery, but I've had a few packages that were delivered to my neighbor across the street. Highly annoying... It was a substitute UPS driver though, and the regular guy ended up apologizing to me about it.

THIS. Seriously. So you just run up to doors and leave notes, and don't attempt to give the customer a chance to get their package? WTF? 3 delivery attempts at 30-60 seconds a pop, or one 90 second delivery attempt where the customer takes the package and you don't have to stop back. Do your mother - @#$(*&@#($*& job.

Also, I tend to have most stuff shipped to my office. Just easier and I never miss receipt of a package unless delivered late and I am already off for the day.

I have had too many problems with UPS. Their tracking is absolute bunk. I have had tracking information completely change from one day to the next. Once I had a package and according to the tracking it was moving along through various cities, and the next day half of those movements vanished and were replaced by different ones, to totally different cities.

I have had packages said they were picked up, and on their way. They even have the package going to my local distribution center, and next thing I know they change the tracking and BAM the package never left its original place. All of the so called tracking was fake.

I used to have "we missed you" notes posted on my door 50% of the time. I usually get the packages the day after. Then one day, I had a package which I couldn't wait to get (forgot what it was). I left the door open with only the security door locked. I was downstairs in the basement, hear the doorbell, ran up the stairs as fast as I could so the UPS guy didn't have time to leave, ran out and caught the UPS guy about to drive off. He was rude and apparently pissed off. I got pissed, and nowadays get all my packages. There was no way he could of tried to delivered my package in like 5 seconds that day.

My USPS guy is amazing. He rings my doorbell and literally waits for me to answer and then personally hands me my mail. I see him park his truck and then make rounds around the neighborhood with his satchel.

Actually, now that I think about it that guy deserves a raise. I should go find his supervisor and send my regards.

I should point out my problem with UPS isn't with my local delivery guy, but with the tracking it self and problems I have had with them. The local delivery guy seems to do a good job.

Wow, this all seems totally fucked up. Between my wife and myself, we have had a lot of packages delivered over the years and we have not once had a missed delivery that wasn't the result of nobody being home. They always ring and wait for an answer.

Got my package! I put note outside and he left it at the front door, but still didn't knock.

To add more humor to the situation the books I ordered are nearly exactly the same size as the box they were shipped in, but Amazon added 7 of those air pillows to the box anyway... deflated air pillows since they wouldn't fit inflated.

They work the job, why is it bad to ask them to FUCKING DO IT? Time constraints be dammed. Don't like it, find another job. Or take it up with the company.

Given so many of us have had similar experience, I'm gonna go with: They are Trained to do it. Certain Customers(likely Commercial regulars) have top priority and us Individual Consumers are expendable. I always notice that the "Attempt" is made 2ish pm, but the reschedule occurs 7ish pm. This is likely a different Driver and one outside Regular Business hours, thus likely more focused on Home Delivery.

sweet is it time to share shipping stories?

this really isnt the fault of FedEx but ive been waiting for something for over a week, something i ordered over a week ago on Saturday and paid for 2 day shipping. they attempted deliver on Wednesday and no one was home (we all work) they left a tag that said VOID on the "sign hear to have us leave it at the door" part, called them they said the shipper didn't allow it. ... FINE so i scheduled a delivery for Saturday because i would be home. they didn't even attempt to deliver it on Friday. the person i spoke to 2 days ago said that. and that was their fault.

called the shipper today to see if i could have them tell FedEx to hold it at the sorting facility so i could just pick it up....NOPE its against their corporate policy... WTF! the dick on the phone said FedEx will attempt it again and it will be sent back and they will refund me......

I told the dude to go fuck himself and hung up the phone on him. Thats the worst fucking policy i have ever heard of

and update to this, i scheduled delivery for today. i even took off work

fedex forgot to put it on the fucking truck.................................

I picked up a couple items at UPS today. Damn....it took 10-15 minutes of waiting just to get service. They were not busy, just crawling at a snail's pace as always. Some of the workers had sticker on their clothing that said:

U - unfair
P - production
S - standards

I wish everyone ship FedEx!

FedEx is much better for me at all San Diego locations.

UPS is good in the mornings, but sucks when these two ladies take over in the afternoon. If you're in San Diego and been to UPS in the afternoon....you know who I am talking about.

It's a game. I once got a "Tried to deliver" note on my screen door with the wood door wide open and me watching TV <10 feet away!

Probably all those hydrocodones you ate I don't know what to tell you I work for UPS I am aware that the trucks and delivery boards are equipped with GPS and such an occurrence would involve disciplinary action. The majority of those guys are either lacking education or office drones who needed a change. Every day most drivers receive overtime, and they don't run a nine to five schedule it's nine until you're done, often up to eight PM. A regular rate of pay is about 31 dollars an hour, so figure at 46 dollars an hour I don't think they are just bullshitting you. And why were you outside on the porch all day are you seventy years old? I'm not bleeding brown here, in fact I despise my company, but you are either lying or don't know what you're talking about. In order for it to say attempted delivery the package is physically scanned and sheeted by the driver. Management gets alerted when a package is scanned away from it's delivery area to avoid things like this.

@Six, customer counter people are lazy, go take a peak at the people sorting and moving packages.
