The Joker was not the Joker. He was just some sick bastard with messed up face. He was not funny or had cool gadgets or anything. His character had all the depth of a raindrop on dry pavement. Not to mention the ending was a huge disappointment. Maybe because Heath did not get to finish the role, but the movie seemed cut together badly. The scenes did not flow.

Principle shooting was completed before Ledger died.

So your theory does not hold up. :\

And that bugs me because I don't think Bale is a no talent hack. I loved him in some of his other films, I just don't buy him as the big action hero type.

I used to really like Bale. I think he has suffered from massive overexposure in recent years.

His action roles have become clones of each other.

That's what they said. But it sure did not look that way. Especially the anti-climatic ending. I doubt they would have said.... it's half baked but we are releasing it anyways.

There was a lot of non Batman/Joker interaction. As if they were in separate movies.

You seem to think that they were supposed to be pals? :hmm:

Khan and Kirk never set foot in the same room, and only saw each others faces on video for about 2 minutes.

Like I said they seemed to be in 2 separate movies that were poorly combined. Two Face was spliced in which made things even worse.

Force of good -> ouch my face -> pure evil.

Why is Joker a psycho? (quote from the movie) "Because some people want to watch the world burn"

Real deep :whiste:

Yes but you could tell they were fighting each other. Instead of Batman running around following the Joker after he did something. Some "detective".

We probably share the same opinions about the movie, actually. I thought it was a blast as an action flick--super fun.

but it was pretty dumb. Those that think it is the greatest ever, or that it's really smart, some sort of brilliant and unique comment on modern society or whatever...don't watch many movies.

It was as dumb and cookie cutter as any other action movie when talking about plot and characters, but I thought it had piles of style and was nothing more than a great action flick.

I still prefer BB.

Well I can agree with that. I loved Begins. In my opinion I just saw a lot of flaws in DK that ruined it for me. Not every movie is for every person.

Even little things bothered me
Like how the Joker kept getting huge amounts of explosives, truck loads into hospitals, ferry boats, etc. Unnoticed and he usually ran with a 2 man crew.

TDK is not the greatest movie ever, but it's instantly one of the best comic-book-based films ever, due largely to two things :

Heath's cracklingly insane Joker

and

Good action direction, IIRC anything that could be done without CG was done with live-action stuntwork, it just looks / feels better that way. Sound mixing was also very good.

There are of course a number of flaws, and I agree that the Two Face saga would have been better left to another film to focus more on Joker vs Batman, Bale's Batman was kind of flat this time out, Michael Caine was sadly underutilized, etc.

I'd still give it easily a 8/10, and it looks/sounds great on a good home theatre system.

except that he was actually way better than Bale.

no contest.

I like Michael Keaton a lot, but I didn't think his work in Batman was anything special at all. I don't think it's his fault, I just think Batman / Bruce Wayne as he's always written is just so damned boring. He never gets any great lines, he always looks serious/sour, just bleh. I think the secret to a more interesting Batman film would be a world with less Batman and more Bruce Wayne getting some more depth.

This thread is fail.

New movies like Batman or Inception or Donnie Darko as the "Best Ever", lol.
My personal favorite, is "The Outlaw Josey Wales." But, it is not the best movie ever made.

With the likes of Citizen Kane, Casablanca, The Gold Rush, 7 Samurai, Battleship Potymkin, 2001 A Space Odyssey, Redbeard, Ran, Ikiru, Rashomon, Metropolis, Mr Smith Goes to Washington, Rear Window, City Lights, Modern times, Gone with the Wind, and The General.
Capra, Ford, Lang, Eisenstein, Kurosawa, Hitchcock, Kubrick.... these are the directors who made the best of the best. There are some truly great movies being made currently, but IMO, the best living directors are probably Chan Wook Park, Quentin Tarentino, and David Lynch... Maybe Speilberg, Coen Brothers, Aranovsky, Miike, Scorscese, and Copolla are up there too.... but they aren't of the same caliber IMO.

I love film, I love new movies, I love old movies. There's a reason why many of the classics are rated so highly and praised by so many, it's because they are just so damn good. They defined greatness in film, and have set the standard so high that they are almost untouchable.

Jimmy Stewart, Charlie Chaplin, Humphry Bogart, Buster Keaton; These names will live on through history because they the actors that defined great acting.

sounds interesting. ...but can you imagine going to a Batman movie that promises very little Batman?! :awe:

...much less trying to pitch such a concept to a producer? :hmm:

I think PT Anderson, Tarantino, Scorsese, Coens are up at the top, in terms of consistency.

I'd probably put Almodovar up there too.
