The Dark Knight Rises: Offical Review Thread (Spoilers). $162MM Weekend

I only read the first page after just seeing this movie a week ago and I hope the entire thread isn't as gushing as the first page. This movie is not that good. TDK was so much better than this movie it's not even funny.

Here are a few criticisms: There will be spoilers below so don't read it if you don't want to see it.
-The fight scenes were lazy and pure garbage. I'm okay with there not being a ton of fight action because that's not really what the point of the movie is. But the few fight scenes that did happen were terrible boxing matches that could have learned a thing of two from Rocky because in this movie they were lame as hell. Also batman never used any gadgets or anything.

-The police jogging into the subway like a pack of robots. Give me a break.

-Turning Bain into nothing but a pet was disappointing to me, but I would be more willing to let it slide if Talia's character wasn't so terrible. She and Batman should truly have a forbidden love thing going on. She is more than a cold hearted bitch. Also, I understand not giving Bain any juice tubes because it may not fit into this universe very well but at least give the audience a reason to believe why he has some inexplicable face mask on. Having him getting pulled under a gang of robe wearers doesn't do anything for us.

-Bruce Wayne turning recluse for 7 FREAKING YEARS because his girlfriend died? Not going to happen.

-Alfred leaving Bruce? Not going to happen.

-The city never turned into an apocalyptic waste land even after months of being cut off? Those prison thugs would tear things up in days.

I'm just so torn on this movie. I like the overall story line but so much of it just wasn't executed as well as it could have. I think in the long term the consensus will be this movie is a disappointment.

I agree with most of your criticisms....but Alfred never left.

I liked Hathaway, I just wish she was a better foil for Batman/better utilized throughout.

-what's up with the alfred cafe scene at the end? is it just his imagination or is he really gone?

overall 7/10

did you sleep through some rather crucial scenes? Alfred explained quite extensively that's that is what he did when Bruce first disappeared (BB--his time with the league of shadows), was to sit in the cafe, on the Arno in Florence, and hope that he would see Bruce just show up at a table, with a wife, having moved on with his life.

...that was a 2 minute scene, just before Alfred was"fired," I believe.

Sure he did. He totally walked out on him. This is why Bruce had to answer his own door and why Alfred was crying at the funeral apologizing.

Agree.

Additionally, without Ledger's performance and increased hype from his death, this trilogy would be largely viewed as only above-mediocre fare.

So if Bain owned that prison, how the heck didn't he know that Batman was trying to escape?

A better question is, why didn't the doctor/inmate tell Bruce that the kid that escaped wasn't Bain, but Miranda Tate.
