When one of the Robins grows up, Batman decides it's time he stops being Robin and get his own identity. He chooses Nightwing, which means he wears an all black costume and moves to a new city without Batman. If they do another movie in this line, I could see Robin taking up the Batman mantle for a while, and then changing to Nightwing by the end. Although, it doesn't really suit Batman's character to stay out of the action, more likely this is the end of this series with a nod towards Robin taking up the mantle of Gotham's protector.
Interesting point about JGL becoming Batman instead. That could very well be an option, especially since Bruce Wayne has already "given everything he had". It seems that in Nolan's version of the DC universe, Bruce Wayne *can* hang up the cape and escape to Paris and live his life, as Alfred (and presumably his parents) would have wanted. That was enough of a theme in this movie and I think it gives the series the "finality" it deserves.

As to whether JGL/Johnny Blake would become a Robin, Nightwing or Batman, I personally think he's too old to be "Robin" (although clearly that's what the movie hinted at) and if Bruce Wayne stays away and he works solo, that's more of a Nightwing/Batman role. The movie leaves it open for multiple interpretations though. His codename/"full name" is Robin; he's presumably going to be working alone (Nightwing?); he could also become Batman (walking into the batcave at the end/Commish Gordon finding a brand new bat signal.)

Good movie, but DK was so much better
Why can't anyone just shoot bane? Sure he was strong, but a simple weapon would make him useless.
I totally get what you're saying, but presumably with his "League of Shadows" training and penchant for lurking in darkness and sneaking up on people, I imagine it's hard to get the drop on him.

Let's just be real here - the use of guns in superhero movies is always unrealistic, but this was a particularly egregious use (or non-use) of guns.

The twist in the end was awesome. Didn't see it coming, and I was very happy to see Thalia in the movie.

As someone else mentioned, it was in front of our faces the whole time and we just didn't put it together - every scene where the kid was climbing out of the pit w/o a mask...should have been a clue.

Never mind the "clue" Bane fucking flat out said he didn't see the light of day until he was a fully grown man. I don't know how all you people can wonder how it is some kid climbs out bathed in sun light and figure for a second it wasn't bane.

WOW.

That was an epic movie.

Saw it in IMAX and it made it even better especially in terms of sound. Easier to hear Bane. But DAMN was that incredible. I actually cried a little bit at the end when Miranda betrayed him and when the bomb went off. I wasn't alone crying either, my girlfriend was crying too, and we saw numerous people openly weep especially at the bomb going off part. Thunderous applause at the very end though. Definitely need to watch that again this weekend.

Easily one of the better movies I've seen in years. And I say without feeling bad about it that for me this was better then The Dark Knight.

Casablanca of comic book movies hands down.

^^

was the IMAX worth the premium?

Hell yes it was. Felt like the whole place was coming down from the sound and worth it to fully understand Bane.

Plus the IMAX scenes were so crisp and immersing really felt like you were right there.

Thanks. I bet that opening plane sequence was ridiculous in IMAX.

Might have to rewatch BB/DK and then watch TDKR again in IMAX

Plane scene was fucking insane in IMAX. The part where the plane falls away from Bane I felt like I was back skydiving again! Soooooo great.

Thoughts about JGL's character:
First off, I don't think Nolan will be making anymore movies in this universe. He checked out so fantastically with this movie that it would be a shame to watch any thing come after this that wasn't as good as any of these three.

That said, I think the implication is that John Blake becomes Batman. The "Robin" comment was, IMHO, just a symbolic nod to the nature of his relationship with BW/Batman in this movie. He became a sidekick of sorts. I don't believe it was intended to be foreshadowing. That would be a little too cheesy for Nolan. It was just a nod to the fans, like the giant Crocs in the sewers comment.

One of running themes of the three movies was that Batman was just a symbol, it was never about who's under the masks. The ending implies that this is exactly what's going to happen.

Man. Thinking about that whole end sequence just gives me chills.

What was the implication of that?

Seriously, the ending was perfect.

I didn't get any trailers

Although I heard there's a Man Of Steel trailer attached to Dark Knight this weekend (if not already)...

Man of Steel = directed by Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen) & produced by the Nolans O_O

Yeah, saw the Man of Steel trailer. Wasn't impressed. Then again, I haven't been impressed with a Superman movie since "Kneel before Zod"

IMO it was a nod to the villain Killer Croc, a character from the comics.

Absolutely agree.
It was so satisfying, which is something I rarely feel after seeing a movie end. It felt right, for the character's arc and the trilogy as a whole

Knowing this was a Nolan movie, I fully expected to see Alfred look at the table and see the back of a man that looked like Bruce, but never actually show his face. Just leave it up to interpretation. That seems more his style, but I agree, I liked the way they did it. Very satisfying ending.

My one other criticism of the movie, and Nolan in general -- using the same actors in different, unrelated movies. You had four from Inception alone in TDKR.

I guess it doesn't really take away from the movie, but it just seems odd.

Why?

He loves his actors and continuously works with them. I don't mind as long as the actors are quality (which they have been)

Other directors do the same shit (David Fincher, Tim Burton)

One actor reused here and there, sure. It just seemed odd to me to take half the cast from one movie and stick it in another.

Besides, I'm just nitpicking.

**Edit** Five characters, I forgot the Scarecrow.

Tom Hardy
Marion Cotillard
Joseph Gordon Levitt
Michael Cane
Cillian Murphy

But they're all great actors, so it's not like Nolan's just doing his buddies a favor by casting them in his movies (see: Adam Sandler, Judd Apatow, etc).
