Not including Oly lifts, the deadlift is often referred to as the most important exercise. It works the core so hard and is a part of every major workout program.

I know that it's a little bit intimidating to start, but posting your videos for form check can help. Here is a great instructional video that I found. Video

If anyone has more info or articles or videos I'll be glad to update this post.

Also, lets keep a total running count of total amount of weight moved. No stiff legged, no rack pulls towards the total. Deficits are ok because they are tougher then a normal deadlift. I expect many people to break 10k in one day, possibly 20k+ for a few guys. 3x10x315 is 9450.

Total poundage - 3495 lbs

Heh, awesome idea. I don't deadlift terribly often, but I'll definitely contribute to this thread when I do.

I do about once every 10-14 days. Been going low rep, high weight for a while now (probably to long). I might switch it up and increase my volume though

Yea, I only go heavy on deads once every 2 weeks or so. However, the occasional CF workout will include a massive volume of deadlift. For example, "Mr. Joshua" has 18,750lbs worth of deadlift in it and the workout I'll be doing tomorrow (if I have time before my flight) has 11,655lbs.

I won't be doing deads for a while, doh...my lower back's still sore from Monday's CF total, but I think it's okay.

Is it ok to do deadlifts twice a week if I'm not doing it heavy? I usually just do them to 12 reps with 3 sets at a modest weight.

How long have you been lifting, this will determine the answer. If its more then 3 months, I'd personally recommend to up the weight and lower the reps.

This is wonderful. I'm gonna continue stretching this week and will try to get back to deadlifts by Wednesday of next week. I should contribute a fair amount in this thread

I've been lifting for almost 3 years now. My goal isn't to be that big or thick. Ideally, I want to be 170lbs with ~7% body fat. I'm currently about 9-10% body fat at 167lbs or so now. My height is more so 5'11.5, but I usually round to 6ft.

What are you recommendations? I'm all ears.

Just start slowly changing your lifts. Maybe increase the weight 10-20% and do a 3x8 a few times, then a few weeks later up it again and move into a 3x5 or 3x6.

There are generally 2 schools of thought for deadlifts. Either a 3x5-6 or several 1-2 rep pulls above 90% of your 1rm. I was told by a few seasoned vets over on strengthmill that 3x5 "might" be to much for the CNS with heavy weight. Some people are able to do it while others might not.

I personally slowly shift between the 3x5 and singles/doubles.

Edit - This is all just a suggestion. Ultimately it's all up to you, but with that much experience, assuming that your form is solid, it could benefit to switch things up.

here's from my previous back/hams/biceps day...I'm doing higher reps on deadlifting right now, as opposed to my usual singles & triples so I should be able to contribute more. The only caveat is that I'm not doing them first off, I'm doing them deeper in my workouts now:

275*10 315*6
2750+1890=4640

20 rep squats, I've come around to accept them as ok every once in a while, but what are you trying to accomplish with a 20 rep deadlift other then exhausting yourself?

Did a CF workout today that included 3 sets of 21 reps of deadlift with 185lbs. I also did 5 reps of 135 and 5 reps of 185 during warm-up. 3x21x185 + 5x135 + 5x185 = 13255lbs

Did DL on Tuesday.
Somewhat easy day... didn't feel like doing the 455 or 495 for a couple.

10*135 + 8*225 + 5*315 + 5*405 + 8*315 + 10 *225 = 11,520

Total: 32,910

I also gave 455 an attempt...which resulted in all of about 2 inches of movement before I decided it wasn't going to happen.
