I also gave 455 an attempt...which resulted in all of about 2 inches of movement before I decided it wasn't going to happen.

Nice man, keep us updated on the competition! I'd love to see the video. What do you expect to pull?

Thanks.

I'll be bitterly disappointed if I can't hit SQ - 551, BP - 451, DL - 661.
If I can find a way to total 1690 + It'll be beat the existing USPF American record in my age (45-49) and weight (308) division.

Technique is highly individualistic based upon bone structure and natural muscle group strengths and weaknesses. Type of lifting suit (if used) adds another element to the equation as well.
Many armchair experts would say my hips are to high, my legs to straight, and my back is to rounded - lol.
As far as I'm concerned, if you pull the bar so it scraps the legs from the knee up (use baby powder), and you've fully locked the weight out (shoulders back, knees straight) in a single fluid motion (no hitching) - you've done it right

The video's that inspire me:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...cGRDDc&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...lcCk8I&feature=related - I saw this one in person at the 2009 Olympia Expo...

Baby steps, you're only in a race with yourself. Gotta add to the total though, I'll do it this time.

84,565 + 1710 = 86,275

I was skiing over the weekend and I forgot to post my totals from last Monday. Here are my results from today. 325 beat my previous 1 RM (317) and I had 335 off the floor but couldn't finish it on my seventh set.

5x135
2x275
2x285
2x295
2x305
2x315
2x325

86275 + 4815 = 91090

Seems like a lot of small step ups in weight. Do you always do that? If it works, by all means, stick with it though!

If my hammys are ready for it tomorrow I'll be doing some deficits. Scary to even think about

I consider my 20 year anniversary to be April 9th 2009. That's when I cared enough to start a training journal...

Yeah, usually I do bigger jumps with fewer sets and more reps, but I've been recovering from a few small injuries and didn't want to go nuts yesterday. Plus, my scheduled workout was 7x2, which makes bigger increments hard.

I did deficit deadlifts with 25 pound plates today. It was about 3" extra distance to pull and crazy difficult. Hopefully it'll help with my explosiveness off the ground.

5x145, 5x245, 5x345, 1x395. I was poopered at the end.

94600 + 4070 = 98,670

Hopefully I can get down on the deadlifts tomorrow. I've been stretching and maintained good form in my oly lifts down in that position. I hope I can create enough drive to lift some decent weights still while maintaining a straight back. *Crosses fingers* I guess we'll find that out for sure tomorrow.

Just outta curiosity, why so much deadlift volume? How frequently are you deading that volume? Are you guys cycling a high volume lift like that.. then 10 or so off, a low volume day.. 10 off.. perhaps an off day, etc? Just seems like a hell of a lot of volume for deads.

I DL every week. I usually do a high volume every other week. In the other weeks I might do low reps/sets with heavy... like 315x5 405x5x3 ...

Not sure why... that's the way it has progressed and just become my routine. I might need to switch it up, since I feel like I've hit a wall at my max of 500x1... it might be time for sets of triples.

I haven't done high volume in a while. For the last 2-3 months I've been doing heavy singles.
