they are filming a ton of movies here in Grand Rapids now. Plenty of movies have been shot in Detroit though.

Between the corporations moving production off-shore for cheaper labor...thus doing away with the jobs that once kept the city thriving, and the "white-exodus" from the city, either because they all lost their jobs when their plants closed, or to get away from the crime, leaving the city in the hands of the ghetto rats who now swarm all over.

In my life, Dee-Troit has never been a "shangri-la," but it used to be fairly well kept...and crime, while higher than many places, was still relatively manageable.

I blame the Southerners who were too fucking lazy to run their own plantations and too cheap to actually pay anyone to work them...and the Northern liberals who, when they freed the slaves, didn't send them all back to Africa where they came from originally.

No lie, if I had the cash, and a good pistol, I'd spend a month or 2 camping out in the ruins, and checking everything out. I'm not too scared to do that, but there's no way I'd wander around there unarmed.

I grew up in the hood around here...so I wanted to see what Detroit's hood was like. HOLY SHIT! I took my lil white boy butt out of there as soon as I could turn around. 8 Mile wasn't that big of a deal...its a freaking 6 lane highway. But 7 was just scary.

I was there about 10 or 11 years ago working for SBC on a short term project. It was weird seeing blocks and blocks of abandoned homes. And when I say blocks of abandoned homes I mean that in a literal sense. There were some streets that were roped and blocked off, every last home on those type of streets were either abandoned or burned out. It was eerie, downtown wasn't much better. The streets and buildings were filthy, trash was blowing everywhere. I can only imagine with the economy the way it is now that things are even worse there. That's a real life example of a dying city.
