My Dell Latitude 7240 (i7, 16 GB RAM) died on me last week mid-use and I am in the first stages of trying to diagnose the problem. I am hoping that someone can help diagnose the problem using the following evidence:
- The laptop was on A/C power with a fully charged battery when it abruptly shut down. The shutdown was instantaneous.
- Everything I have tried to-date has failed to elicit ANY life from the laptop. I have tried the recommended taking the battery out, pushing the power button for 30 sec and re-inserting the battery ... nothing has fixed it.
- Interesting: When I plug in a known good adapter the light on the PS dims or goes off. I've tried two (2) good adapters and one, a newer Dell 90W PS actually shuts down, the light goes completely out and the only way to reset the PS is to pull the plug and reinsert it.
I am beginning to think that the laptop power system is shorted and the PSs are shutting down to protect themselves.
Would really appreciate any guidance or advice with this before I decide to replace the unit. That would be a shame as the 7240 is super fast and in mint condition.
Thank you ...
