Yip, that party that caused all this. THEY'RE the ones to blame. That damn party. They're out to get us all.
Which one is the bad one again?
Just some facts...
On May 30th 97 Democrats voted for a CLEAN debt ceiling bill.
http://www.businessinsider.com/clean-debt-ceiling-vote-just-fails-2011-5
On July 31 95 Democrats voted for the final debt ceiling bill.
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/02/us/politics/02fiscal.html?pagewanted=all
So there it is. More Democrats wanted a clean bill than a bill with cuts included. aka Democrats didn't want ANY cuts at all.
And keep in mind that we were downgraded due to the fact that our cuts weren't large enough.
So had the Democrats gotten their way we still would have had a downgrade.
Meanwhile, if the Republicans had gotten what they wanted for and what the passed in the house TWO times then we wouldn't have gotten a downgrade.
So who do you blame? The party that wanted the cuts, or the party that didn't?
Interesting. Please link as I don't recall Obama offering a specific plan.Obama was the only one to put $4T plan on the table. GOP blocked it, they wanted a much smaller short term plan.

Very true.Just some facts...

I blame everyone except the President. So who do you blame? The party that wanted the cuts, or the party that didn't?

That's my point.Have you no Google?
http://www.google.com/search?q=Obam...s=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a
Plan specifics never came out, apparently- He was negotiating, remember?
That's my point.
AAA countries don't threaten to default on their debts. Republicans own this.
The fact that people are defending one party or the other here is stupid. Both parties are to blame. Both parties are dragging this country down. Both parties are full of career politicians that need to be kicked out of DC.
Obama was the only one to put $4T plan on the table. GOP blocked it, they wanted a much smaller short term plan.
You are just as bad as ProfJohn.
Not one Democrat in the Senate voted for it. It failed in the Senate 97-0.
And yet you're still blaming GOP for blocking it? How do you explain the missing 52 votes controlled by Democrats?

Oh, and this required only a simple majority vote. No one blocked anything.

Democrats, Republicans, and Tea parties are equally to blame.
The only person I don't blame is the President. Well, actually I blame him for not bringing the Simpson-Bowles commission to congress for a vote by using his bully pulpit...That's about it.
Tax increases were non-negotiable and off-the-table from the very beginning of negotiations as there was no way Boehner could get it passed by his own party because of the dominant role the Tea Party played. Obama's "plan" allegedly included significant tax increases. So this is the plan he actually thought could be agreed upon prior to releasing the details, and not a platform from which to pose, posture & pander? You certainly have an interesting perspective...I'll give you that. You have no point. Obama sought a plan that could be agreed upon prior to releasing the details, not a platform from which to pose, posture & pander. He thought he could get Repubs to go along. He was mistaken, because all they ever wanted was a platform from which to pose, posture & pander.
He'll probably make the same mistake again. He thinks they can be brought to reason, when he's just been feeding the bears.
Keep making excuses for Democrats. They are just as irresponsible as Republicans and the Tea Party members. Formality my arse.Oh, please. That's become standard operating procedure when Repubs threaten filibuster- avoid that, wrangle in the background. The rejection was a formality, nothing more, and a signal to Repubs that Dems were willing to do so. They all knew it didn't have a prayer in the rabid Tea Party HOR.

you always attack PJ post but i never see you refute anything he says.

As foolish as GOP Rep. Paul Ryan's budget plan was, it still got more votes in the Democratic controlled Senate than Obama's budget.
Obama's budget: 0(Yea)-97(Nay)
Paul Ryan's foolish budget: 40(Yea)-57(Nay)
That should tell you something shouldn't it?
Either Obama's plan was so great it cut into the special interests in Washington that both parties hated it so much, or it was so bad that both parties voted against it.
Take your pick. One or the other.
The ownage is strong with this one.
And matters are little better on the other side of the Atlantic. There, the extreme right threatened to shut down the U.S. government, confirming what game theory suggests: When those who are irrationally committed to destruction if they don't get their way confront rational individuals, the former prevail.
So why did the Democrats waste time on a "Reid" bill they know would never pass the Senate? And the dimness of those quoted above is like that of a black hole, sucking in the light around it.
Try this-

Dems knew that Obama's original budget proposal would never pass, so they shitcanned it from the get-go. They were dealing with irrational actors who they knew they had to appease, or face the collapse those actors threatened.
This ain't rocket science, guys. It's another successful episode in hostage taking and extortion by the radical right.
