My husband and I saw "The Departed" this past weekend; neither of us have seen "Infernal Affairs," although we will be sure to rent that soon.
He absolutely loved the movie, and his favorite line was about how to deal with feds: "Feed 'em sh!t and leave 'em in the dark."
There was only one thing that irked me throughout the film in terms of its realism.
The "psychiatrist/psychologist" violated so many ethical codes in the film, she would have her license revoked in a heartbeat.
Dual relationships, anyone?
The worst example of dual relationships involves clinicians who have sexual relationships with their clients. It's considered a felony in several states. Hollywood seems to think that there's nothing wrong with it (i.e. with the psychologist's ridiculous line, "You're not my client anymore, so we can talk freely/have sex/etc.), which is really bizarre, given the amount of therapy taking place there.
Just in case anyone's wondering, it is a serious ethical and legal violation to have any sort of intimate contact with a client outside of the therapeutic setting. We are even discouraged acknowledging our clients in public with a wave or a nod, since it is important to protect the privacy of our clients and to avoid dual relationships.
Other than that, I enjoyed it and would see it again.
