First off let me say I am an independent. I don't buy into either party's lies and deceit. With that being said, I have a few observations over the past 15 years....
When Bush senior took office the economy wasn't in top shape although Reagan had helped. He made mistakes with his promises BUT he and congress worked together to get items passed to help the economy. What happened was that by the time he went up for re-election the economy had not made a recovery.
Then Clinton took office with an economy that was coming around. He took over a ship that was already starting to run on all cylinders. Within a year, without Clinton having to do much of anything, the economy was starting to boom. All he had to do was get ready to ride the success. Clinton was just smart enough not to do anything stupid to hurt the economy.
By the end of his term, the economy had started going south but he did nothing to help prevent it. The economy went down the crapper and left this for either Gore or Bush.
It just happens that Bush inherited this mess.
What I don't get is how everyone says Clinton helped the economy and make it when in fact he did NOTHING. Bush Sr. set it up for him and Bush Jr. inherited the mess Clinton left.
Now everyone blames Bush Jr. for this mess when he didn't create it. If Gore had taken office the republicans would be blaming Gore for the economy. It is just a bunch of crap on both sides.
Personally I don't think Bush is the best president we could have to get us out of this mess but I am tired of people praising Clinton when he did nothing to get the economy going. Clinton just knew he could ride the success as long as he didn't do something to screw it up.
The democrats and republicans need to stop playing the blame game and work together. Both parties have had good ideas but are too stubborn to take a look at the big picture. All the care about is making their party look good.
BTW, I am not an economist These are just things I observed during my years as an independant who has voted for both parties in the past. But I do tend to agree with more republican issues simply because of what the party is based on, Less government=better government.
IMO the only reason Clinton was popular is because of the economy that he had nothing to do with.
