the effects of shaving?

Okay. I shaved my arms and legs for swimming. And I really like it!!! I think I'd very much rather stay smooth than hairy. But I was wondering, does shaving really make the hair grow faster/darker/thicker, whatever?

I've heard that the "effects" are just a myth but other people have said it's true. I'm not gonna keep shaving if it really makes the hair darker/thicker/grow faster.

I'd especially like to hear womens opinions on this.

Yep,it's true! Ask your girlfriend not to shave for a few days. It's worse than 20 grit sand paper. :Q Good thing I'm almost naturally hair free People are always asking me if I shave, which is embarrasing.

1) Its a myth.

I have read the same thing since I was 15. That was many years (18!!!!!!!!!) ago. I can tell you that it is NOT A MYTH. I know b/c I have been shaving the hair on the back of my neck since I was 15. It's nasty. It grows back really fast. I get a haircut and a week later the hair on the back of my neck is longer than the short hairs on my head. Damn nasty genes I was "blessed" with.

Anyway, since I started shaving it, it has grown back faster and thicker. We won't get into a discussion about shaving other parts of the body (chicks dig it... DO IT! ) but suffice to say that grows back quicker too.

Maybe it doesn't help that I am a hirstute (sp?) individual, but that's my $.02.

You may prefer to try and do something else with that ghastly hair on your back, maybe use tweezers...

Okay, I've decided that for everyday life, I'm not gonna shave it except on special occassions.

Unfortunately most of the girls at my school think i'm weird. Some are all right with it, but ahh.

I also use lotion a lot to moisturize myself. I think I'm turning into a woman.

it feels all course and prickly at first growing back because its short and the ends are sharp. shaving does not alter your hair permanently. my mom and aunt and everyone always told me not to shave above my knees because it will grow back all gross. but as of yet (6 years worth of shaving) those hairs grow back blonde and baby fine. so it is a myth!!!!

I don't know, the back of the neck thing sounds kinda nasty. You might want to keep it cleaned up.
I think the effects of shaving differ from person to person and different locations on the body can yield different results.
But for the most part its a myth, it just feels differrent while its growing out and is very noticeable.

Mmmmmm...yes, you're right; the back of the neck thing IS VERY nasty. I hate it. Anyone remember Eddie Murphy quoting the phrase "goonie-goo-goo?" That's me. And I do keep it cleaned up. Every three days. It's my own fault. I started when I was 15 b/c my HS GF told me "you have too much fuzz on the back of your neck!!!" I was mortified. After all, this was the woman that took my virginity. God bless her. Anyway, I started back then and it only took maybe two years for it to start growing like weeds.

Oh man. This is TMI. I'm outaa here.

r u talking about nads and epil-stop? my persian friend (really hairy) tried epil-stop.... it's not just spray and wipe... it's spray, wait 5 minutes and then wipe... and the thing is, on parts of ur body that aren't always exposed (chest, back, upper thigh/upper arm) when you let the stuff sit, it burns at ur skin... what it does is like denature ur hair and a little bit of ur skin so you can just wipe it off... gross stuff... he did it to his chest and he had like burn marks for a couple of weeks... gross...

oh, and the myth thing... like people think that, but it's a matter of it seeming to grow back faster because the difference between the day you shave and the next day vs. the difference between the 4th week of ur goatee vs. 4th week and a day SEEMS like it's so much more... and the thing is, younger people tend to believe it, but what happens is that they're growing more hair anyways, and then they happen to be starting to shave too, so hey look, could one be caused by the other? naw... it's just a coincidence

I'm not a woman, but my wife is in school or cosmotology, She said that there is a chick there that she Waxed her legs for just over two years, and her hair doens't grow anymore. She's got permentl smooth legs.
