Skyrim is third person...same with all ES games.

Well I was able to watch the 20 minute video that was leaked and I have to say while he didn't really do much in the video the game looked disgustingly horrible. I had really high hopes for the game but nothing seemed to be to stand out in the game so far and for their sake I hope that was an alpha build or something because that did not look good to me.

Yes, I do. I enjoy them better in 1st person than 3rd.

Same. First person can be limiting in terms of situational awareness, but it's more immersive, and I prefer it for shooters and RPGs alike.

MMOs don't really work in first person, period. If you want a single player shooter or RPG, sure, it can work - but it would not for a MMO.

to me it is too claustrophobic and limits my vision in not so much an immersive way, but in an inability to properly target things that are in front of me.

I also dislike FP games in general, so that probably has a lot to do with it.

those that saw the video--what about it actually didn't look good? the graphics and style of the game, or are you saying the mechanics and questing of the game actually looks bad?

Judge for yourself. He honestly doesn't do much so to be fair it is hard to judge but it just doesn't look good at all *in my opinion*. I was really expecting an elder scrolls game but online and it doesn't seem like one to me. I guess maybe I was expecting to much.

They keep taking the video off of Youtube but for those who haven't seen it Gamespot has a short news video and shows off some of the footage from the leaked vid:

Also according to the article the Beta started early last month with plans to expand its testing base in the future. So I'm guessing that vid was most likely from the Beta.

Looks pretty good. Will have to wait until I see how the mechanics work before making a real judgment though.

I think people just don't like MMO's.

Beta or whatever state it's in, the overall look of the game seems a little more on the 'standard graphics' side of things. It doesn't seem to have any eye candy effects such as bloom enabled. I'd imagine that those just aren't implemented yet.

But, with that said, I don't want to play an mmo. A story-driven game is like a good book. An mmo is like crack.

I am looking forward to this. I like the whole TES setting very much, despite only having played Arena and Daggerfall This could be an awesome game if they don't fuck it up.

From what I read, it seems the game will be more action-oriented than your usual MMORPG. No cooldowns and stuff... Well, I don't know, I have BF3 for simple quick action. Maybe I am too oldschool for that.

It will have, at some point. There was a sign-up form. I filled it out but haven't heard anything since. Then again, I almost never get into betas. I don't know if it's because I'm a programmer, or because I'm old .

Wouldn't it need to be in order to work well on consoles? I don't see how a MMO is supposed to work on console, is the microphone supposed to replace the keyboard for communicating with other players? Cause that'll just get obnoxious. I could see a basic game working on consoles, but nothing very intricate like raid boss mechanics in WoW.
