there was always a surplus....we just didn't want to use it.

same thing. they could have (and I'd argue should have) been used to ameliorate the high costs of fuel. The only reason they weren't was because of greed.

Again... the gas/oil companies have nothing to do with oil prices. And the drop in gas prices reflects the drop in oil from nearly $80 a barrel in July to $60 now.
i just needed somewhere to point my finger at. im not trying to understand the politics behind it all, ill happily remain ignorantly blissed as long as i get my cheaper gas. but thanks for the simplified explanation, now i can tell other people why the prices are what they are and come off as the knowledgable one.

It's around $2.70 at Arco near my house, why the hell don't we get 2 bucks a gallon?

Because we live in the People's Republic of California

Naw, I was thinking about trading in my motorcycle for a nice Hummer H2. I mean, gas is cheap again, right?

I've heard quite the opposite, actually, that fuel consumption wasn't decreasing at all despite rising prices. I think this has a lot more to do with the newly found oil under the Gulf of Mexico than anything citizens have been doing.

QUICK! GET TO THE STATION AS FAST AS YOU CAN!! Create an artificial spike in demand to drive prices back up!

Sorry, if prices jump up it's my fault, I just bought a full size chevy pick-up that is a gas hog so I will be adding to the demand.

bah, despite the fact that i commute a lot, i'd rather the gas prices stay expensive... more motivation for people to conserve and buy smaller/more efficient cars.

true i was thinking that as well...even fi we pay 3/gallon, and it bites me very hard as a college student paying his way through (internship trumps gas prices),other places in the world pay much much more
