On Eminem's new summer tour, a tense video storyline is woven through the Detroit rapper's show. Following a montage of visuals encapsulating his vast celebrity -- magazine covers, TV footage, limos, crowds -- the star is seen alone backstage, aiming a loaded pistol at his image in a mirror before turning it toward himself.

The climax is abrupt: With the gun to his temple, Eminem pulls the trigger. The screen goes black.

When the dressing room eventually fades back into view, the audience sees that the rapper sits unharmed; the gun has misfired. Eminem looks into the camera.

"This is how you go out with a bang, baby!"

At a casual glance, it might come off like the latest shock attack in a career defined by controversy. But dig a bit deeper and you'll come upon a revelation even more startling, one that has been known only to the artist's closest friends and associates.

Marshall Mathers is ready to get rid of Eminem.

Here's what it could mean, say those close to the rapper: When he steps off the stage Sept. 17 in Dublin, Ireland, he will have made his final concert appearance. "Encore," his slyly titled 2004 release, will stand as the final Eminem album. The reign of Eminem, and his alter ego Slim Shady, will have been voluntarily vanquished.

I don't like a lot of his rage & violence, but he's a great artist. He's the only rapper that can tell a story not thrashed with sex and whores, not to mention the only one I can understand throughtout the song.

Good riddance. He had a very grating voice, although some tracks were entertaining.

Some like to call him a god of rap, i call him a buissnes man.
While his raps have been almost sub par, for his last 2 CDs (the ones before catchy, but not better), he has been making tons off other sales, artists.
He no longer needs to rap to make money, and i for one will be glad of the departure.
While he has advanced the rap game, im not sure it has been for the better. In a coulture that now thrives of dreams of living like an @ss hole, change will be welcome. I egerly await the day where it will no longer be about the "Bling", but more aimed at truth, living in your means.

(A line from one of my songs)
"Everybody nowa days is just like i got change, i got chains, i got benz, and i got range."
I believe the above catogorizes just about every rap song, and i hate it. Rap music is pop in disgise, and most people who listen to it are young. These messages are faux, fleeting, and not what raps roots (Hip Hop) were about at all.

Though yes, some might argue that even the pioneers of Hip Hop, like the sugar hill gang, were talking about watching tv in limos (at the time, boku bucks), thier message was love. I eegerly await the day Hip Hop, and artists like Talib, Hyrogliphics, J-5, and like artists to become more main stream. People that talk about poverty and the drug trafficing in a bad light, and dont make light of the strugles of inner city youth, and the (mostly) poor black enviornment.

Dont get it twisted, while I enjoyed his music, i can see the trends shifting. The distance between the two styles (Hip Hop and rap) increasing, and i cant say its a bad thing.

Before i get off tract, yes its about time for Slim to get out. I just am aprihensive as to who will fill his position. I hope no one.

Listen to hip hop. Though the slang usage gets bumped up, the message they paint is much deeper.

You dont know what rap is.

You are being a bit eliteist. You don't own rap, hip hop or R 'n B so leave people alone.
