The End of PC Gaming has started

Well, as I called several months ago, the end of PC gaming has arrived. With these next generation systems, they have now made the PC obsolete to play games on. The PC game market may have a few MMORPG, but other than that its over. The only thing a PC is useful for now is Office work and maybe some TV. Of course the TV part will be obsolete once HD's come down in price.

Have you seen Call of Duty? Combine that with the Xbox Live community, I would say the next gen of FPS has come out. Also, people who play FPS on Xbox or better than PC FPS gamers

With every console release, a gaming market segment for the PC has died every time(Sports, original role player, adventure, etc.) Now all gaming segments will be overcome other than MMORPG's, but all Xbox needs is the Keyboard/mouse add-on I've been rooting for for years.

I absolutely hate playing FPS's on consoles. No controller will ever compare to a mouse and keyboard. Add into that the fact that consoles lose a lot of support after 4 or so years and that they can't be upgraded, and PC gaming will never die.

Support after 4 years or so? How many times do you think you will need to upgrade your PC just to hope to get the same performance as the console? PC's cost thousands more just to play games. No upgrades needed if you use it for the reg office work, and have the consoles for games. Someone give a better argument than this, or that "as long as there are PC's..." The difference between a PC capable of playing modern games and any other PC does not exceed the cost of a console, you can buy a 7800GT for $300 which will play anything out more than reasonably at high settings, and if you choose to run at the same resolution as the 360, it offers obscenely fast performance because consoles are limited by the display. It does not take the same amount of processing power to play COD at 540x384 is it does at 1600x1200.

Then how come consoles look just as good(in this case better) than PC's and run at smooth framerates? No one is annoyed when a PC stutters? No one wants a consistent gaming experience? To keep that up in a PC, you need constant hardware upgrades. Not in a console, and a console looks just as good or better, ie Xbox 360.

You're clearly uneducated when it comes to simple logic. When you make a wildly perceived claim, the burden of proof is on you. It's as simple as that, because frankly, the rest of us have been hearing your sermon since through the days of the atari, the nintendo, the sega, the playstation, the xbox, and now the latest and greatest. I hate to break it to you, but console technology is trickled down from PC technology, and is sold to be more accessible for those less technically inclined. But you're posting this on a PC user BBS, so of course you already realize that.

Perhaps you misunderstood my post. A console is smooth, because it does not require as much power to run at the lower resolution. PC games can run at the same resolution equally smoothly, and look just as good. Your claim that the console looks better is subjective. Look at the last generation Xbox for example. When it shared a game with the PC, the PC version more often than not had graphics features that the Xbox excluded, the price to pay for having a smooth framerate on inferior hardware.

Game developers do all that they can to create an good looking game at lower resolution, employing low contrast textures and antialiasing and other visual wizardry, but it simply isn't able to keep up with PC's ever evolving graphics technology, in part because the console is not modular and cannot be upgraded. You could buy a new videocard every few years, or a whole new console. At least when you upgrade the video card, your old games will still play.

That's great that its based on PC technology. whoopdie-do. Now lets see you buy a compareable PC as the Xbox 360 or PS3 for $500. Also, these next gen consoles are far ahead of the top PC hardware currently available. So you lose in both a technical, and economical argument. Someone with an intelligent argument, please arise, as it is getting boring to swot away all of these initial flies. And yes, I do know Anandtech is a PC forum, that is why I expected some better arguments for the PC. duhhh
