Just watched the first two episodes last night. So far I like it. I am really enjoying the scenes from Nucky's past, and Chalky's current situation.

I heard Narcisse will make an appearance this season, can't wait to see what he's up to!

Eli and "Mueller" are a hilarious combo. "WHY DOES IT ALWAYS HAVE TO BE PANDEMONIUM!?"

As much as I don't like the short season, the balance between storytelling and drama/violence is working for me so far. Maybe we'll see Nucky introducing Gillian to the Commodore at the end of the season while the end to the Lucky/Meyer/Nucky story comes about.

Oh, and who didn't love the opening scene after last week's new character introduction.

Episode 3 was decent, but certainly nothing spectacular.

Didn't realize this is back on. I'll have to watch.

I liked the show a lot at first but have been pretty disappointed with it. killing jimmy, wasting half the fucking show on the irish lady and gillian, etc.

michael shannon's character is definitely the best part, hope he gets more airtime.

nucky seems the least belivasble of the bosses, too frail or something. I think rothstein is my favourite of them, so odd.

also like chalky and his bro, and the younger jewish guy. eli is ok sometimes. rest of characters can pretty much diaf. richard was awesome until they made him into a softie.

capone is ok too

yeah, it basically skips all of the big Capone years...which is fine, I guess. The show really isn't about Capone, anyway.

Anyway, it should be good. Best HBO show since Deadwood if you ask me.

given that it's HBO i thought they were going into some sort of prison lesbian thing with gillian - but nope! i have no idea what that letter is about.


it really sucks they couldn't budget 12 episodes for a full season

hahah, I have no doubt that was exactly what they wanted us to think. They even had the lady in charge look Gillian up and down as she stands there naked...but was sizing her up to see if her dress would fit. LOL.

Episode 4 was big letdown. Too much backstory with Nucky, too much Margaret, and little progress was made everywhere else. Michael Shannon shined as usual and was the highlight for me.

I never had much emotional attachment to the character. :\ Although I thought the scene was very well done with the soldiers, when she was shot, I really didn't care.

This really didn't interest me either. I thought it had already been decided that Joe would not be working with Nucky. From Joe's comments in the previous episode, I figured they were already done and I was surprised to see him in this episode.

It really seems like the producers wasted a lot of precious time in episode 4. Only 4 more to go, and there is a lot to wrap up!

Yes, he's one of the higher ups in Capone's organization. You see him in most of the scenes where Capone is shown this season. You also see his FBI side during one of the episodes where they tease Eliot Ness giving a press conference about Capone.

From what I understood, he didn't kill it so much as HBO didn't want to keep paying for it? Period shows like that with the elaborate sets and costumes are really expensive to produce (which is why Rome was cancelled, afaik).

IIRC, ROME was cancelled purely because their expensive set burned down after Season 2 along with a bunch of props.

I watched episode 6 last night, and thought it was excellent! Easily one of my favorite episode so far through all 5 seasons. Great scenes with some of the best characters. Capone was awesome, Van Alden was awesome, Chalky and Narcisse both had great scenes. They finally provided some decent background info on Gillian.

I really like their casting choice for the new, young, 20-something Nucky. I don't think they could have found a better actor to portray a young Buscemi / Nucky. The kid nails it!
