The Enron bidders are idiots!

I have been on the Enron auction phone line all this morning and I cannot believe what some of these people are bidding for the electronics equipment, most of which are two years or older and obviously used.

Example (and I don't recall exact prices):

Harman Kardon AVR500 for over $500 (the newer HK520 can be had for a little less than $600)

Pioneer 101 CD changer went for $220 (it can be had for less than $150 on the internet)

Many Sony tvs, flat screen and not, went for well above going internet prices, hell even BB prices.


These prices were also before the 13% fee, taxes and shipping! :Q

I wonder what these people pay when they buy a new car?

 

Maybe they think it's valuable since it came from Enron.

Th 50 to 60 inches went from anywhere from 6k to 7.5k if I remember. They sold some in lots. One guy spent over 55K for some, again before the 13%, sales tax and delivery.

The 40" went for about 5 to 6K, with one person purchasing 4 at 4.5K each.

Just look at ebay. Most of that crap is going for dangerously close to, if not more than retail.

A lot of bidders at real auctions are more scrupulous than that. Ebay is nothing like an actual auction, and the people are not the same.
It helps that at a lot of auctions you have to put up some money just to get a paddle....you can't just walk in for the hell of it...you have to be at LEAST a little bit serious about what you're doing.

the plasma tv would have probably been for the trading floor or the IT floors. I know at my company the IT department has a few hanging from the ceiling.

vi: I willl agree with the idiot part. However, if "most" stuff went for near retail, I would be a very rich man.

many of the items went near or above retail prices.

For example, they were paying 7k + 13% charge + shipint & handling for plasma TV's that were going at a little over 6k on Crazy Eddies.
