I went today, and let me say, it was pretty darn gay.

All of the bidders are crazy.. paying way too much mula for some of the stuff

These people were barley getting 30% off but then you have to remember, you have to pay an extra 13 percent tax, and then another 8.25 for state tax.

the auctioneer (the guy) seemed pretty funny.
he and the female auctioneer had a heckuva time trying to keep the Web bidders in line.

I actually called in on the bid line for awhile.
couldn't BELIEVE how many doofuses kept punching their telephone keypads AFTER the auctioneer would say "PLEASE STOP PUNCHING YOUR KEYS AND TALK TO US"

LOL
plan to tune in tomorrow as well.
just for laughs (stuck in the office tomorrow anyway).

The term is Buyers Premium. Tax refers the $ goes to a government agency, when the state of texas only recieves the 8.25%.

Perhaps a lot of the bidders were from outside the US where prices are much higher, and these were actually bargains for them?

MT, I doubt it. Although wholesale and retail dont have TOO much leeway, shipping straight from a wholesaler to the end customer in X country would be cheaper just because of no B.P., state sales tax, and competition.

I think a lot of people who bought stuff did so just for the hell of saying "This came from Enron!" and paid thru their noses.

Enron should have thought of this earlier. This seems like a pretty sustainable business model, and at least this way they are actually selling something.

Funny quote from CNN article:

Brian Cruver, a former Enron employee who wrote the book "Anatomy of Greed: The Unshredded Truth From an Enron Insider," was at the hotel with his own agenda.

"I'm here to buy my old chair," he said. "It's the most comfortable chair I've ever sat in and I want it back."

story

A Houston computer store bought the tilted E sign for $44,000.

I truely don't get it. I tuned in and they started doing lot 1161-1191
I'm pretty sure they were bidding over a thousand dollars. If it's for all 30 then it's a steal but I think it was just for one of them. They sell a pretty much identical model at surpluscomputers.com for $660 shipped.

maybe the bidders are Enron former CEOs, they need to spent as much cash as possible for furnice their new mansions, so the governemnt won't go after them,

Enron auction was a joke. I just sit there laugh & b*tch out those dumbasses that bid used stuffs for ridiculous prices. They probably dont' know how much things cost.. there's this one lady bid 300 sumthing for a 13" sony TV.. OMG that was unbelievable... Like when they have a whole bunch of the same item.. why dont' everyone just bid low and so everyone else can get it at the same price? i mean they have like hundreds of them. Some guy bid at prices that almost retail. so that make me think.. hmm is there anychance Dovebid have their own guy bidding against others to jack up the price?
