Kind of interesting that the localized problem is affecting the same subsystem that grounded F-22s for a while. /shrug

That's the problem with the F-35, it's going to quite vulnerable to large numbers of older generation planes in close quarters. I mean the F-35 can't even carry that many missiles. When you are out of ammo you won't be able to run away, since it's a Mach 1.7 max airframe. The F-22 will probably be the first one's in contested airspace as it has the most powerful thrust of any jet-fighter ever made and can actual gun the engines and run if need be.

Well, you don't send a fighter/bomber squadron against a advanced military powers without interceptor support. Course, congress killed the F-22 program early, so we'll be using F-15s/16s.

People who just want to throw stones cant be bothered to understand the difference between an attack fighter and an air superiority fighter. They'd rather just compare apples to oranges and celebrate. The F-35 can't fly at the altitude of the U-2, go as fast as the SR-71, or carry the ordinance load of a B-52. Therefore it clearly is a total failure.

Why is it that everything that has complexity levels of "it's amazing that it even works!", costs well beyond 100X of their lifetime income, and they'll never understand how it works automatically get tagged a piece of shit when it fucks up?

I see this all the time whether it's a half a million dollar server, electric vehicle, tape robot, et al.

And sometimes even a vaginal pleasure device.

Although the latter, if it has shit on it, the user is at fault since they clearly entered the wrong hole.

If the F-16 airframe cost as much as the F-15, people would just buy more F-15s. Nobody intentionally buys a worse inferior product under the same budget just because some bean counters insist a piece of military hardware has given a defined title. That kind of reasoning is like the thought cognitive dissonance that goes on with military historians on the roles of tank destroyers and tanks.

The F-35 airframe is pretty much at parity with the F-22 at this point, and is a clearly inferior airframe. If F-35s have to be escorted by F-22s to survive their mission, why not just have more F-22s?

because F22s are air superiority fighters and are not designed for the same missions as the F35. the F35 is a multi-role strike aircraft. it's an F/A-18 replacement (on the navy side anyway).

Pretty much wrong on all points.

I feel bad for the Navy. They used to have an Air Superiority Fighter (F-14). Then they went to the F-18, which was a pretty balanced design, IMHO. In the future they'll only have F-35 were there is a heavier trade off of close combat capability in favor of stealth - again, IMHO. But I haven't seen any air-combat videos, etc.

I'd be in favor in doubling the number of F-22s if there were some changes to the design to reduce cost and maintenance requirements. I'm a bit concerned that we don't have a enough advanced ASFs in case of a major incident with a modern military power. Otherwise, I think the F-22 is pretty solid (there are some upgrades from the F-35 in terms of electronics/systems that would be a good add). The F-35 is having a fair number of teething problems for and airframe that should have a large build out.

The F-35 is better than the super hornet in practically every aspect. Better fighter, better ground attack, better stealth, better range.

Well, I'm going over some comparisons. I don't doubt you, it's just been a while since I've looked at the differences from an air combat scenario.

The fastest plane we admit flying did well over mach3 and if you ever had the chance to look in the cockpit it was pure ww2 fighter plane Anything we put IP these days can't be flown by the seat of your pants. The main issue I see with f35 is the globalization The avionics and nav systems come from Turkey, there is no place in the UK far enough from observation. To use the laser targeting systems Then have to overbooked to use the same airframe on a carrier as you do from the ground but look at the brighter side it must have some stellar qualities because the Chinese are already copying it

And the F-35 is flying again, even though they don't know what caused the oxygen problems. They do have a list of things that didn't cause the problem, though, including "aircraft maintenance issues and procedures surrounding pilots' flight equipment." I think that means it could still be a design flaw.

There have been 'hypoxia' like event in other aircraft over the years including the T-45 'Goshawk' trainer. It seems to be an ongoing, but limited, issue with high performance military jets.

Seems to me that putting recording pulse-ox meters on the pilots might help figure out if there was an issue.
